Lowering 172 help please

  Ziel Nurburgring

If i buy the 30mm drop springs from one of the websites, how easy are they to fit yourself? Once replaced(If you can do it yourself), do you need to re adjust the suspension at all, i wasnt sure if it would alter the Camber etc (Im making it up as i go along, dont have a clue when it comes to suspension)

Cheers

You will need various sockets, technically you shoudl have a torque wrench and you will also need a spring compressor thingy.

At the end of the day its gonna cost a garage £100 tops to do it, and you know they will have done it properly. Im like you working stuff out as i go, but suspension is a fairly vital part of the car, ege if sommet goes at 60 ur likley to crash. if i was you id leave stuff like that to the pros, esp if u dont know wot u are doing.

If you have a Mk1 then if you buy the Haynes modding guide then they show u step by step wot to do.

My old mans a competant mechanic, im sure a few beers will see him give me a hand. Is just a case of take out the old, put in the new and do up the nuts then? Nothing needs adjustment after?

didnt make the ride to hard then?
Harder than it was, but not over hard, the CD doesnt jump and I can still do speed humps (slowly!)...feels nice and solid without any roll if ya know what I mean ;)

i was unsure because they have quite a hard ride as standard dont you think? I think somebody i know is lowering theirs so ill have a ride in that first before i do it myself.thanks anyway

My local branch of Charlie Browns fit my springs. The ride in my 172 is pretty harsh, but thats on my local roads, which are in a really terrible state of dis-repair. I can live with the harder ride as the standard springs are pretty shocking.

Thanks for all your help peolpe, think i going to book it in for the end of the month for the 40mm drop from BB tuning

JAY172 you have a cup so I dont know what the difference will be for you, I didnt think that my 172 was a hard ride as standard, but Ive always had hot hatches so maybe my idea of not hard is someone else hard...if that makes sense?

Eibach UK are gonna email me when they are available. They are currently testing them. The current Pro kit is designed for the whole Clio range where as this new one has been designed specifically for the 172.

They said the drop should be about 25mm.

You might like to double check with Eibach on whether kit is for 172 or Cup. Bit of digging I did (since I was trying to decide what to do myself in light of your news) came up with Eibach working on a dedicated Sportsline kit for the Cup only.

In the end Ive decided to go with the existing Pro kit since Im not after a big drop, just improved handling.

Big thanks for the info tho!!
