Lowering 40mm or 60mm .... possible pics

  Scooby STi, FiestaST

ok - im looking to lower the damn thing.... after speaking to fred i still am not sure about going for coilovers or the springs and dampers...

So the question is regarding a 40 or 60 mm drop... would be nioce to see the difference between the two and if anyone has any observations / comments on the handling differences if any....

Its a 2005 1.6 MK2 PH2..

cheers

matt

60 mm will look best and if you want some sort of ride comfort you will need coilovers or spring/damper kit. Fitting just springs will give you a w**k ride.

yeah wasnt going to touch the springs only with a barge pole.....

looking at the apex 60mm ones about 250....

just wanted to see the 40 vs 60 pictures really.

hey mate, erm, i have the following..........

40mm apex on 15s (springs only)

60mm PI Springs ONLY - AVOID AS ITS GASH!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y26/cliorob/DSCF0090.jpg

40mm APEX KIT on 17s..........(by far the best kit for steering response / handling)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y26/cliorob/cliorearnet.jpg

Apex 60mm Kit on 17s - good kit! not as sharp as the -40mm one, but miles better than Pi, handles well, rides ok (17s kill the ride)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y26/cliorob/DSCF0002.jpg

And.................Apex -60mm KIT on 15s (wearing 195/50 tyres). The tyre profile used on the 15s works well with the kit to help it absorb some of the minor bumps, and the car handles much better and sharper, and is more playful and predictable! My current setup.............

Hope that helps mate! this car has had more suspension changes than it has washes LOL

ive just had a koni kit (35mm) put on my clio, and the ride height is identical to that of R30BCs silver dynamique.

the one thing i will say is that the ride is amazing. the turn is much sharper, and the car feels much more responsive.

i was also amazed at how comfy the ride is. its hard to feel the difference between the standard and the kit.

cheers guys...

R3OBC - apart from holding your bed in place whats going on with the wheels ? quite nice looking. Also what splitter is that on the front ?

The cars only a few months old so im going to void the bloody warrenty so i might aswell do it in style...

Suspension is going to be struck off lol.... @ renault customer services....

i do think that the -60s are what im going to do....

With that kit do you have to be ultra careful on many roads with speedbumps etc ?

-60mm Apex kit if you want a really good set up for not a hell of a lot of money this is the one for you......R3OBC was the 1st on here with the -40mm Apex kit and i was the 1st with -60mm Apex kit(same kit different springs)....also Carbon Copy had the -60mm Apex kit on his mk2 ph2, both above will agree its a well sorted set up for less than £300.

If you feel like spending around the £500 mark FK coilovers no question.

Oh and your warranty....they have to prove the mod has caused the problem/failure so dont worry about that.

Speedbumps....you shouldnt be goin over them fast anyway in any car, they are SPEEDBUMPS after all, on bumpy roads the ride is firm but the gas shocks sort out the bumps with no problems at all.

Cheers for the reply.... I was looking at the coilovers but with getting new wheels, having a little sprog and the missus etc etc i think ill have to settle for the apex kit.....

I think itll be teh 60mm kit..

Oh and the reason i asked about the speed bumps is the council seem to have a think about spending their entire budget round here putting them every 50 yards or so down alot ALOT of roads....

Rayleigh Essex - before anyone asks.

*ponders the extra cash on the coilovers....scratches chin and checks wallet*

Youll pay £300 for a kit im sure AJR and some other got coilovers for about £150 extra if you can afford it DO IT!!!

I had coilovers on mine and never had any trouble with speed bumps I recon it must ahve been close but it never hit on any speed bumps.

Coilovers or matching springs and dampers though definatly.

Ive got some coilovers for sale Spax RSX ones £250.

There are some pictures of mine on the spax "60mm" coilovers in my members profile (click the buttom on the top of this post).

^ Whats with the writing all over ur fotos!
There from a track day at Oulotn park you can donwload photoes that big for free but ones without writing you have to pay for. Im cheap so I stuck them up my profile. Plus there can be no legal implications.

im wondering what the difference is between the 185/55 is with the 195/50s as the tyres are about £30 cheeper!!

  ST

The 195/50s are a lower profile and they are a little wider so less side wall flex, a little wider track so in theory better grip and they are cheaper in that size so its a bonus.

so why are we not all driving round on these tyres then??

are there any drawbacks??

Well i have 16" mk2 172 wheels on mine and they are 195/45/16s so lower profile than the 195/50s but the rim is an inch bigger therefore smaller tyrewall.
