Lowering my clio, but a few questions

I want to lower my clio with 15s on, whats the lowest i can go without having to do any arch work?

Who does the best value for money springs? gmax seem good but from what i can see they only drop 55mm, too much for me want 40 maximum

Also this torsion bar job, i wouldnt dare attempt this myself so would be looking at paying someone to do it, who could do it? Anyone on here do work like this on the side?

Do you DEFINATELY have to do the torsion bar job or can you get rear springs?

Can anyone reccomend the perfect set up for me??? I.e make of springs, drop in mm, and the amount of torsion bar splines needed to drop?

Gmax do 30/35mm springs, look at deamon tweeks.

not sure about the quality of Gmax, was pondering gettign springs from them myself.

I ahve seen plently dropped 60mm wiht no rubbing.

You have to do the torsion bar, this is instead of rear springs. Any local garage shoudl be able to do this for you.

apex springs are good, thats whats on mine i recommend them! i dropped it 35mm, doesnt sound much but it looks much better

how much are apex springs?

thinking about it, my brother MIGHT be able to do the torsion bar, or atleast one of his work mates could, hes an apprentice mechanic. although saying that they did a strange job of fitting my k&n

torsion bar is easy PROVIDED you have access to the right tools. also its useful to have a few things lying around encase it messes up!

providing you have a good offset you should be able to drop it 60mm. i have a 1.4 rt and i have got 16s with a 60mm drop front and 70mm rear with no rubbing at all.

whats a good offset? im unsure of what the offset of these wheels is. see, my brother bought them for his nova but never fitted them and he needed spacers for them to fit his, but mine went on without them... i want to see if i need spacers or not though to get the perfect fit

i had g max -35 on my car then spax -55. the spax were much better. i had 15" alloys on the car for both and didnt have any probs wit either! admitedly i had no plastic liners in the arches though!

I got a mk1 1.4RT with 15s - its lowered 40mm on the front (apex springs) and 50mm on the back. No srubbing at all, i reckon 60mm would be fine!

Yes you have to get the torsion bar done and front springs.

BTW where you from mate?

Carl.

nice one mate, think ill go for 40mm to be on the safe side like

why is it 40mm at front and 50mm at back? is that just how it needs to be to equal it out and preserve/improve the handling or is it just your preference?

how much did dudley renault centre charge for lowering? was it a modified car specialist garage or just a normal one? did you know him?

are all springs compatible on both 1.4rt and 172? My mechanic told me the springs could go on both models so not sure if he is pulling a fast one just to seal a deal.

I had a couple of things done at the same time! For 180 quid i had the torsion bar done, springs provided and fitted, the bloke also put me wheels and exhaust on! I wanted 40mm all round (to be on the safe side like you) went to pick it up and it was dropped more on the back! But id like it 50mm all round now because i think it looks good that low! lol!!

Dudley renault centre is just a renault specialist - hes been dealing with renaults for 15yrs! lol!! (i didnt know him either!)

Carl.
