MAC server trouble (mate needs help)

Right guys, my mate has suggested I ask you bright chaps on here as he's tried all over with no success.

We have a small network of 3 Macs linked to another one which we use as a server. We used to be able to search for files on the server over the network, but all of a sudden we can't. Can't remember when it stopped working, but it was a while ago and it's really bugging me now. Is there a simple setting that has somehow been disabled?

we can connect to the server with no trouble, we just can't search over the network (through Spotlight, or through 'open' in any application).

What do i do to fix this

I have no idea what the f*ck he is talking about, and have suggested "going home".

Anyone with a clue?

Connect to a share (macserver open a folder on it) then do command-F in the finder and you'll search the server.

If I don't open the share I don't get the option to search it.

Cheers mate. I've passed that on. Hopefully it will resolve the situation. I've never used a mac so have no idea what it all means.

Spot on dude
