Macshield infection?

The sister-in-laws iMac seems to be infected with Macshield malware b****cks. As per usual with this kind of crap - the obvious answer is to pay for the 'fix' in order to remove the pages to gay p**n that randomly pop-up (duh - ok) - other than that, it seems quite a recent infection?

Kickstarted a sweep last night on it with Sophos for Mac and I'll give her a call later this morning to see if it reported anything.

Other than that, has anyone got any suggestions for removing it? I've got a list of options as long as my arm if it was a PC infection, but I'm out on a limb a bit with regards to Mac.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Scary thing is, I don't think it installs itself (gets around entering your password), runs like a App (I.e. just copies itself to "Applications") and then runs in the background

f**king annoying tbh, but its inevitable with more and more mac users.
