Magnex and Cup

  E36 323i coupe

I am looking at changing the exhaust on my Cup (if and when it arrives) for a twin 3.5 (circular) Magnex back box. I have some questions:

1. What sort of noise should I expect? (dont want mega loud, just a nice aggressive purr)

2. Performance difference?

3. Will mpg decrease?

4. (this is the important one)
(i) does it affect warrantee?

and if so

(ii) does the exhaust system form one continuous piece from the front box to the back box, or would the chaps fitting it have to cut the pipe?

Im about to order a magnex and I have been in my pals with the magnex oval and you can hardly hear it when tootling about town, he says its get a bit louder at 70 but is not that bad. Sounds so smart when you give it some stick tho :)

You get a nice burble around town, louder as you go faster and a noticable howl on a trackday.

2. Performance difference?

A small increase.

3. Will mpg decrease?

Mine didnt.

Not as far as my dealer is concerned. The Magnex has a lifetime warranty so no worries there. Just make sure you take it for its annual check-ups.

The existing exhaust is one piece as far as the catalytic converter. The new cat-back unit replaces all of this. No cutting. If you go for the back-box only theyll have to cut your existing exhaust.

The original exhaust is one piece from Cat back to the tailpipe. To remove it, the fitter will have to cut the pipe. The Magnex is in three pieces and they supply all the sleeves etc to fit it.

If you later want to re-fit the original exhaust, you will need to sleeve the two parts together where you cut it. Renault do a part for about £15 that does the job superbly.

Magnex themselves fitted my cat back system and they cut the original exhaust in the same place that the Magnex joins just before the rear axle.

How much is that then? Cos I was looking at around £174 originally.

Mike, how did they remove yours without cutting? I was told it was the only way to get it from behind the rear axle?

I watched them do it but I was sitting by the wheels at DT drinking coffee so wasnt really taking any notice. I know it was in 1 piece cos they asked me if I wanted to take it home!

I went for a wonder around the show room while they did mine, try and take my mind off the wheels only to be confronted with lowering springs!!

I know mine was in two as it was the only way they could fit it in my boot!
