Main beam lights stuck on!

Driving home last night and to begin with the main beams wouldn't come on at all then after repeatedly pulling on the stalk they would come on for a couple of seconds. after about 5 minutes of this they then started working fine but won't turn off at all (not even when the keys taken out)!!

I had to take the fuses out last night when i parked on the drive!

is this a common problem? is it a relay or something more serious?

any help much appreciated!

looks like you may need a new stalk

I don't think that it's the stalk because it makes all the right clicks and to begin with the lights came on and went off again without the help of the stalk.
