MAJOR ELECTRICAL FAILURE

just drove about 10 miles (well 9 pushed the last mile) and everything died. first it was the dash speedo/revs/trip comp and then the stereo cut out. about a mile later the power steering seemed to go and them pulled over and engine started to splutter so turned it off and then all lights and electrics went apart from the hazards which were really really dull.

anyone know what this might be?

dead battery and alternator is not charging/working. What you experienced sounds like the battery dying; as the voltage drops, certain things will start to fail.

If you've got break down cover I suggest you get them out to take a look, they normally take a quick look an give you a free guestimate at the problem. AA was spot on when the fuel pump went in my ex's 106.
