Any more details?
Did it cut out whilst you were driving?
Will it turn over?
Is the battery dead?
Any funny noises when it happened?

Cambelts snapped, pretty certain. It's spinning over fast because it has bent valves and no compression! Get it to a garage!

i do remember when it was happaning. when i put it in to 3rd gear and it sounded like the gears was grinding. so i took it out and put it back in and thats when i was losing the power.

Is the cambelt 100% ok? As you saying the engine is spinning over very quickly points at the cambelt broke - the engine will only be turning the bottom end - the cam and valve gear wont be moving as the belt would have snapped

If the cambelt is snapped it's not going to start??! You can't see the cambelt looking under the bonnet? it will be the aux belt you can see. Put money on it's broken.

As steve has said its probably the cambelt snapped or a cambelt tensioner broke
