make my clio fast...er

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
i have a 1.4 16v, its so close to being faster than my old mans calibra 2.0 16v, dont ask why, hes prolly a crappy driver.

thats not the point i wanna go faster, and want more power.
looking for about 10-20bhp

i never see any 1.4's with engine mods done, are there any available??

so a list of ideas would be cool, also how to go about doing the work
TA!

  Turbos.
You could spend thousands on your engine and it would still be slow. I think the most effective thing to do would make it a 1.6 as i believe they are the same but with a shorter stroke? Edde will clear that up...

It looks like you have coilovers already but if you got some 4 pots, got your geo done and took your rear seats out there will still be fun to be had at the smaller, twistier circuits/airfields.

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
its had no work done to it so far other than 85,000 ruthless miles on the clock.
dunno if theres much point going with the I/k / Exhaust route.
do they do a superchip for the 1.4?
if i then remapped it, im guessing id be lucky to get 10bhp.

making it a 1.6 is prolly a good idea like u say its something to do with the stroke.
thats 110 straight away.

just some info on the 2 cars
kg bhp bhp/t speed
Caliba 1265 134 105 133
Clio 1000 98 98 116

Yep CLiobuyers right the 1.6 is almost the same engine longer stroke different block as well for the longer stroke but chnaging just the bottome end for the 10hp and more toque gains isn't worth it you'd need to remap it to make it work or get the whole 1.6 ECU/keys and UCH.

172 transplant is the only way to go IMO £1.5k = vat for the bits add a new clutch and cam belt for say £220 (might as well as its easy with the engine out then either fit it yourself if you have the time and willingness or say £750~1.5k to get it fitted at a garage its all plug in and go its just the whole looms need to be changed which takes time.

There are bits though the engine as its the same as the 1.6 can use the 1.6 bits Catcams do a few sets of cams ranging from drop in to race spec I think best ask Yozza or contact them direct for more details. the manifold could be worked not sure what sort of price BenR or Hill power etc would chareg as its the first time things have been done but the engine basically a 172 engine in miniture so they might chnage a fortune as its never been done or cheap as a learning experiance for themselves. However cams £600 manifold work maybe £400 then a remap say £400 and a new cambelt (need to take the cambelt off to do the cams so mnight as well replace it as its not much extra so that £200 for about 15hp at best (after all you'll only get about that same % increase for those mods on a 172) but thats £1.6k or so for 15hp which is a lot. The 1.6 engine would be a better idea buy one and send it to BenR to fit them cams to it thenn go down to GDI or BenR etc to get the engine fitted and mapped. The engine may cost say £300 extra but will give about 10hp more anyway so it worth it ok fitment costs comes into it but thats about £200 and you'll have your 1.4 spare to sell on.

The 1.4 gearbox though is the JC1 the 1.6 uses the JC3 box which is stronger the JC1 is used on the 1.2 and its proven itself weak in this I wouldn't start putting more power though it so a jc3 box would be a good idea plus a new clutch plus new driveshafts (shafts lenghts are different) would be approx £400 extra.

So you can see a 1.6 engine with cams manifold work stronger box new clutch driveshafts cambelt will be approx £2k for about 125hp.
