Making a loud exhaust quiet

  182 Cup
Ditch the electronics and turn the flaps with a bolt and I see no reason why this wouldn't work on a Yozza or an Orbisoud. Why has no-one done it? Best of both worlds.

Richard Hammond had this on his Land Rover Defender. Might do it to mine :p lol

So in effect its a butterfly in the exhast piping. Having it closed makes it quiter, and having it open louder.

Would this not have a bad effect on the engine if you only had a single pipe and were closing it off a little??

no by the looks of it you have 2 tail pipes... one silenced which has no butterfly ie open all the time...

then the un silenced one has the butterfly

so you always have one open.... you could always just run those two back in to a single exit

So if the butterfly valves are blocking a path for the gasses why did they stick them untidyly at the end of the exhaust and not at the point where the gas path changes just before the silencer?

I'm going to experiment and see what happens - simple enough to test by putting something over the end of the tips to reduce the gas flow.
