Mark 1 Clio Gear Knob Help.

Trying to install new gearknob into the clio, Unlike many other people I have read about the knob lifted off quite easy, underneath there is a plastic mount thing does this need to come off in order to add new gearknob and if so how?

I think that plastic bit needs to stay there, think it's for getting reverse, will be the case if it's a valver but not sure about the lower models
