Mark 1 Handbrake Problem - Common?

My handbrake is loosening off again, and i asked a few people with mark 1 clios and a few of them are having the same problem.

Basically the handbrake goes slack at the rear as inside the drum, the winder is spinning off and becoming loose. Now is there a solution anyone found, or is it a just replace the winder and see if it solves the problem?

I have adjusted the handbrake several times and its now becoming more frequent when i have to adjust it as it is totally crap and cant hold the car weight at all.

Anyone?
