Shitty situation.
Has there been any cases within the RS group where the replacement engine has gone pop?
There have been one or two that I've heard of. The thing is, with Ford playing their cards so close to their chest, no one knows a) the exact reasons why they fail or b) how the replacement engines have been 'fixed'.
What I'm getting may be doomed to fail again in the next six months!
People do seem to be getting very excited about the problem but it's a bit over the top really. The car has a problem, it will be fixed under warranty, job done. If it's only 5-10% of them, it really is being blown out of proportion. The only drag will be if some of the cars that are unaffected show signs when they are out of warranty. Will make repaired cars more desirable.
From what I understand there could an awful lot more that have failed than currently have been reported as having failed. I believe the coolant loss into the cylinder happens during the engine cool-down with distortion of the head allowing coolant to dribble past the head gasket. This would explain why the majority of failed cars are higher mileage cars i.e. ones that regularly get up to temperature and go through proper heat cycles.
The low mileage garage queens may have failed already...but because they only ever do 5 miles at a time (my oil is still not at ideal temp. after 9 miles) they never get hot enough to experience the distortion during cool-down.
This could be a massive problem in the future...although I'm still hearing that a recall/inspection for all is on the way.
Imagine trusting a Renault main dealer to fit a new engine 😧 Hope the Ford guys are better than the Renault lot.
The dealership I'm using haven't done one before :fearscream::weary:
