Mates car wouldnt start !!!!!

its a mk2 ph1
Right he has exact same clio as me, just 1.4.

worked all fine today then tonight we got in and tried to start her up,

all the lights came on, etc so it wasnt battery which we recharged anyway. and it wasnt ticking over so i assumed it wasnt starter motor as we also tried to bump start.

it just wudnt start, when we turned key u could hear a whine for a second then it died down, (maybe ecu).

anyway greenflag came to have a look, after we left it for a while and it started after a few seconds of nothin. greenflag left, we tried it again....wouldnt start. left it again blaa blaa managed to get it back to his house, it now starts everytime like nothing happened.

WTF lol

a friends girlfriend has a mk1 clio and had this prob, a guy came out to her and just did sumink under the bonnet, (cleaned sumink, changed it round, moved its position) and it was fine forever after. she doesnt know what he did.

help !!!!!!!!

really, but it was doing it earlier on as in when the engine was hot, then later on when the engine was cold, so i would have thought something like tht wudnt happen.

who knows but its pretty s**t, as we cudnt figure it out, he dont really wanna go to garage as they will jus bullshit tht its sumink else and charrge him.

This happened to me... it turned out the female connector to the alternator was corroded and just needed a clean as the wire didn't have any contact

The RAC man said this was a common problem on clios

no jus did nothing like no noise, but all the lights came on etc so battery was fine.

renault boys sounds similar as the girls clio it happened to was fixed on road side by rac n he sed it was common. Jus need to figure out where these bits r.

lol really dnt know anythin more than basic under the bonnet mate, all i can tell u is wat was happenin, like jus nothin a small whining noise as if it was tryin and all the lights worked n radio etc.

it jus wudnt start, so maybe fuel wasnt going to engine (full tank) but as clioboy sed it was a common problem tht the guy fixed on road side, plus the other bird i knwo tht it happend to.

but she cnt remeber wat the guy said or did lol.

Yeah, check the earth to it, I had this once on my 1.2 mk2 ph2. Cleaned the earth connection and it never happened again.

yeah well, the guy who came to look at it last night when we cudnt start it sed sumink about replacing a fillament or sumink tht could have corroded for a tenner, so maybe it is tht. we also tried to jump start it n push strt to, but tht didnt work.

ok sound i will tell him what u said, wat should he say the the guys at garage, to seem like he knows wat he is on about, (and they wont say it needs a new engine lol).

i dont think he needs to take it to a garage.. if it is the same problem as mine ( which it sounds like) your mate just needs to clean the female connector to the starter motor to get rid of the crap which builds up and stops the metals conducting

on the back of the starter motor there should be 2 connectors one will be a big live and the other a little spade terminal its the little one you need to clean may be hard to see as starter motor on the back of the engine on the 1.4

Check the connections on the starter motor itsefl mate samething happend to me a few months ago thats all it turned out to be...Spray the conectors with WD40 should clean them up and make for a better connection

sweet we found out where it all was and cleaned them connectors the one tht just pops off and the one tht is like bolted on.

the red and black one.

And gonna put some grease on today,

it worked fine last night so looking good. cheers.
 
This sounds exactly like what happened to my 16v this morning!

Dash lit up but nothing happened, just a quiet whirring noise.

Are these connections easily reached on a 16v (mk1).

tht will be the prob mate sounded just like tht.

the red connector we found hard to reach but the black one was easy, then again it was a ph1. not ph2.
