Isn't there 230 kit silly money for the gains?! 😂

No more so than any other tuner when you take everything into account hardware wise, compare like for like with anyone else and the costs are very similar.

The difference with Mountune is that they promise 230bhp and insist you have the additional hardware to ensure the car is running as well as it can...and the map is optimised for all of it (they're also the only ones so far that tweak the cam timing which seems to have a marked effect - look at the graph and the area between MP215 and MR230 compared to what MP215 gives over stock!).

Others can give you a simple map at a much reduced cost which will give similar peak power without all the hardware. The thing that makes that a moot point is that most people go ahead and fit an induction hose, charge pipe upgrade, exhaust, intercooler anyway...so they end up spending Mountune levels of money but still b**ch about how much Mountune costs!

I can assume it would drive nicely with a tad more poke, but 15bhp peak and a spread of up to 15ftlb's for what, a tacky badge and £2000 ?!

The MP215 only got hits because its warranty friendly, this MR230 voids warranty and IMO isn't worth the outlay for the gains, but each to there own.

I cant help but feel Mountune products are over-hyped and over-priced. Whilst its a different product all together, their sport spring kit was DREADFUL and even Eibach admitted it over the phone.

Comparing like for like, quoted from STOC;

I Just thought i would do some comparisons for stage 2 kits from standard; fitting varies around the country plus you can DIY so........

Mountune MR 230 - £2295 + Fitting (230ps with 340NM )

Revo stage 2 with scc performance using the website package, with a sports cat and pro alloy cooler. = £2,303.53 + Fitting (229ps/226bhp 368NM )

Pumaspeed 245R with sports cat, R-sport IC and ITG Filter & Tuning Box = £2,211.80 + Fitting (maximum of 235-245bhp and 365nm (temperature and dyno dependent))

..........

Given that none of the above are warranty friendly it comes down to price and quality. For the extra £80 or so I'll take the one that's been developed hand in hand with Ford themselves and that also tweaks the cam timing to improve power right throughout the rev range.

If it was me, I would stick with the warranty friendly MP215 you already have, and accept the car for what it is.

If you want mega power and torque etc, you might as well just sell it and get a 2nd hand Focus ST!
Couldn't agree more. Or for that much money, LSD. The difference between that and brake steer is massive. Would make a bigger difference than the small power increase.

Why is that not showing over boost on the std PS graph?

See im intrigued by what im hearing about these cars and am tempted to see if the hype is justified.

That said I'd wait till they are at the 5k price bracket as imo its too much money for a warm/hot hatch.
I was tempted to get one on pcp (family discount from Ford and a healthy px value) and after test driving it and spending a couple of hours in one.. I didn't want to buy one! The seats hurt my back.. the interior is very cheap.. looks are something only a mother could love and it was just a bit 'meh' (IMO).

However, it did hold well in the twisties and reminded me of my 172 and for what it is and for how cheap they are.. they are worth considering if you want a cheap fun car. It just didn't do it for me.

But I would say the MP215 would be a must as it just seemed to lack power from stock.

What car do you drive mate if you don't mind me asking? Presuming a VW 'Rocco?

Bloke over the road has just bought one and I must say I don't really like the look of them...I like @Matthew one though. Must be the splitter! I think my next car will be a 200cup or potentially an ST if I can't stretch to a Megane 250. The benefits of the ST being MPG and torque over the 200 cup

I was massively underwhelmed tbh. Never happened before, went in fully expecting to order one. Came away knowing I'll never own one.

Same guy has another fiesta parked next to it. From what I can see there are two tailpipes but the rest looks exactly the same and its a previous gen model as wellI believe. That said the same criticisms could be levelled at the Pug 208Gti and the new Clio EDC.

I must admit I got a little excited over the Clio Trophy but by the time I can afford one I may as well just buy a Megane. Sort of the same as thw Twingo's at the moment. Why buy one when you can have the same car more or less with a 172/182 for a lot cheaper.

Update:

So after 10,000 miles and two dealer visits, I have finally managed to fix my rattle for good! Basically tried to pull the rear trim off (unsuccessfully) but did managed to pull a few 'lugs' out so its not seated correctly.

Whatever was rattling against the trim now isn't due to the few cm extra clearance it must now have. I've never been happier with the car as it was really ruining my experience and found myself taking the C1 over the ST..

So that's the good. Now for the bad..

The car is 12 months old and have covered 10,000 gentle miles and the rear view mirror has fallen off. Great build quality right there. It's not been moved, so must just be the (hard) ride which has killed the bonding.

So that's another trip to the dealer this week. As well as that, I've noticed the fan coming on quite a bit in the last few weeks so I'm going to get them to look into that whilst it's in.

It's a f**king joke all round. My first propper experience with Ford (other than my £700 1st car) and they have been found wanting in build terms.

Whose freaking rear view mirror falls off after 12 months? Joke.

I broke a windscreen trying to put one back on a 106 gti once if that makes you feel better.

The worst bit is I only removed it to save time untangling the thousands of air fresheners it had hanging off it when I bought it.

Imagine how popular the grey one would have been, very at a guess. Think at some point I even commented when the deals originally came about.

Booked the car in for them to look at the fan coming on all the time (I wouldnt say 16C air temp outside would warrant it being on constantly), and also the rear view mirror.

They said it might need a new windscreen as they sometime come already attached? They werent sure but Id be happy with that :)

Dropped the car off this morning for the radiator fan issue. Just had a call back from Ford to say 'a valve was broken/faulty' and it needs to be replaced and needs new anti-freeze.

Does this mean anything to anyone? I know it wasnt right though.

Honestly, I've had more issued with this brand new car, than I ever did with buying used cars 5/7/10 years old!!

Nope. Not heard of a single case of that happening at all so far.

Rear-view mirror sorted?

Funnily enough I was called 10 minutes ago by my dealer saying they'll sort the door seal as a goodwill gesture but unsurprisingly, not the passenger sill light. Grrrr.

I fixed thr rear view mirror myself. It has a clip that is fixed to the screen, which had come lose.

I'll find out more about whats wrong when I pick it up after work and report back.

How come the door lights dont come under the 3 year warranty? Thats a bit crap isnt it?

I could understand a bulb maybe, but they are obviously faulty...

Door sill lights are deemed a 'trim' item and therefore only covered for twelve months.

But...I've just been called back by the dealer and they've said they will order a replacement unit and do it for me for nothing, again, as a goodwill gesture! RESULT!

Since I bought the car I've given them not one penny but had my three free services. They're clearly desparate to keep me going back for its next service hence them doing this for me. They can f**k right off though...I have a well respected Ford specialist 1 mile away whereas it's a 30 mile trek to get to these people.

So I've got the car back from Ford.

According to the invoice it was the "coolant bypass control valve" that seems to have failed, resulting in a coolant leak.

Part's on order and it needs new coolant.

So that would explain why the fan was on all the time, the engine was low on coolant and getting toasty!!

Anyone know in English whats happened to cause this failure?

btw, focus st in grey has real road presence!

i can see them doing something similar with the fiesta - dropping the blue for something a bit more purposeful
