Not sure how long the Beta's been out, but I signed up the other day and downloaded it this morning....

http://mwomercs.com/

It's riddled with the 'season pass' mentality that devs seem to lap up these days - but for a Beta, the game is showing a LOT of promise. I have concerns that Premium payers (top whack pass is $120, FFS) will end up with far superior equipment and chassis - but time will tell.

Inputs seem fixed for now (unless I missed something obvious? :)) and as such, my beloved Inverted Y-axis wasn't there. Pulling the mouse towards me to look down is just so alien! But you do get a very good sense of being in a large, lumbering robot in which heat management is everything. Go in with weapons blazing and you'll shut-down in seconds flat - leaving you to be a nice, vulnerable target.

Had a quick go on team deathmatch and did little to help my side - lol!

Looks like Hawken will have it's work cut out in order to compete with this. Either way, its great to see a current crop of Mech-based games being released. They are something that will never go out of favour, imo.

I used to love these games sooo much, the original mech warrior was a proper favourite.

Shame I haven't got a machine to get this running on :( No chance on my 13" MBP.

I'm suffering buyers remorse from the Founders pack. Luckily i didnt get suckered into the top package so there is a silver lining for me.

I cant put my finger on it but its deffinately missing something i didnt feel drawn in at all, almost like i was a spectator to the battle and was just left with a "meh" feeling without really caring of the outcome. Its just login, configure a mech and press "Battle". There are other more polished games out there that offer this alot better, World of Tanks comes to mind.

One of the first games I played with my expensive orchid righteous 3dfx card.

Cracking buy. My first real 'accelerator' purchase back in 1997 - a mere snip at £245!

Hmmmm - now if its just that, I'm not going to bother. I was hoping for a 1st-person version of something like MechCommander - where you could team up with other players online and attack/defend set objectives for the map. If it's just a glorified TDM game, then it's a bit of a wasted franchise, tbh.

It is glorified TDM (one spawn life) so far, but I assume they will add more game modes eventually.

Just think of it as a cockpit based World of Tanks, that is the best way I can describe it.

^ as Addicted said.

My issue though is that while being a c**kpit based World of Tanks its not on the same content level as World of Tanks which then means unless you get some real enjoyment out of being in a c**kpit it just doesnt draw you in when other games offer the same gameplay, better. Shame too as i enjoy configuring mechs! :(

I loved the original but im much more of a mechcommander 1 and gold fan. i hope a new version of that comes out as 2 was pretty pish.

Love the idea of this sort of game as I love massive robots - and customisation. However never played one where I found it any more than a slow FPS with overly confused options.

Total Annihiliation was amazing - including the great map editor. Remember thoe Krogoth units in the expansion? They were epic. Also loved all the other heavy units like the sumo. A remake of that game mixed with DoW 2 style experience and upgrades would be amazing.
