Megane Sport 225 and 182

  Civic Type R EK9
Just out of interest what are overall quicker as in bends handling etc i know 0-60 theres like 0.5 of a second diff to meganes advantage which slight gear change wrong or poor driver not noticeable??

Any experiences on both?;)

225 is quicker. Period.

I doubt one would lose a 182 though, on any road.

182 would lose a standard (non-cupped) 225 on anything twsty I would imagine.

yeh fair enough would imagine them having the edge on a straight initally off the line maybe thats where a 182 maybe as quick

I think they are c.16.5s to 100mph, so you'll stick with one all the way up until then. 0-60 would see the megane edging ahead presuming perfect changes/launch from both drivers.

  Megane 225 Cup
I think that when it comes down to it, the driver will make the biggest difference. A competent driver in either car will always make the best use of each car's characteristics

I had a 172 Cup before I upgraded to a 225 Cup and based on my experiences on both, the Megane is quicker although it doesn't feel it. The Meggy gets to the speed with less effort and in more comfort whilst the 172 was always a bit noisy.

As for handling, I'd still take the Meggy, it feels more planted in the corners and it gives you the confidence to put it in to a corner, knowing that you'll come out the other side. The Clio was always a bit skittish, especially where the road was poor.

The only criticism that I have with the Meggy is the lack of feedback you sometimes get with the steering, it is minor though and once used to the car, you'll adapt quite easily.

yeh according to reviews like top gear etc the 182 seems a hotter hatch!! the meggy is more of a fast family hatch

yeh why let me in on this? lol

You might be lucky and find a good dealer. I'm not going to **** them off again here becuase I'm coming over as a Renault hater. Do a search for any recent posts from me if you want an idea of where I am coming from. Doesn't stop them being great cars :approve:

i know a guy that ownes a f1meg. he told me he raced a clio trophy the other day and it kept with him till 130mph.

On a track, I'd expect a 172/182 to have the edge with regard to handling. Far more chuckable than the Megane, as you'd expect really due to the overall size of a Clio compared to the Megane.

But on the road and for the average driver the 225 is a quicker car. Off the line they are both similar but where the 172/182s start to lose a bit of puff after 70 or 80, the turbo keeps pulling and would see the Megane hitting silly speeds quicker.

Also, on the road the sheer grip the Megane has got would mean that the difference between that and 182 is minimal. I used to own a Clio 172 and regularly drive the missus 182 Cup. But every time I get in my 225 it wows me and thats a 225 without the Cup packs.

182 is an awesome proper hot hatch, the 225 is a f*cking quick GT car, its comfy, luxury but can be lairy. :D

IMO anyway.

I've also driven a 225 and was unimpressed with the way the power was delivered. Also, the brakes were crap!

  Elise/VX220/R26
lol the brakes on a 225 are like steam liner anchors! You must have been in the "0" zone rather than the "1" zone (they arent exactly progressive)

Depends which 225/1*2 your comparing but if you take a cupped 225 its on a par with the clio, r26 probably better in every way, thats just the evalution of the megane kicking in. 225 is a fair bit quicker than a 1*2 especially with a few easy engine mods. In the twisties theres very little to seperate them in reality.

  Black Gold Meggy 225
I would have to agree, there really isn't that much in it. It really comes down to the driver, and minerals.
