Micah's 220 Trophy

Hi everyone, I've been a member on here for a while and have mainly been on clio197.net. I thought I should fly the flag for the Mk4 a little, and having been chatting to @RMDavis and @Ricardos on quite possibly the best Mk4 group on Facebook, I know their roots started here and thought I should join in a little.
I'll try and keep this short, but I don't think I'll succeed...
Bought at the end of July 2017, it's a 220 Trophy with Monitor and Bose (check out that arch gap)

I did my first ever track day in it in November at Bedford and was blown away by how much fun it was. All caution surrounding the warranty was thrown out of the window in order to have some serious fun.

Bedford was followed by Spa in April 2018, and Snetterton in May and July.

Its also had a few mods in between track days;

DS2500 front pads and RBF600 fluid (no pic, what's the point?!)

In short, I absolutely love this car, and from reading posts on it on here and other places, it seems everyone has a universal opinion on their first thoughts of it.
It ticks every box for me - versatile, nippy and handles great. It still makes me smile a year on. I shouldn't think I'll be changing it for quite a while yet!

Next stop, Doninngton Park on the 13th - anyone on here going?

Great work Micah!

I'm glad you've decided to join me and Richard on here. The MK4 group on Facebook is great, but this forum is just as good with some really good people that make it a fantastic community!

If I haven't bored you about it already you really should consider coming to CSF at the end of the month...

Cheers Rob, about time we shouted about these cars and the mods we can do to them, although a little limited.
Will do my best to contribute more on here, it's like stepping into a city from a town in terms of forum size. clio197.net is great but Mk3 focused, whereas this is more established because of the earlier Clio's - still the same site owners though!
Was contemplating Blyton again, I'll give it a bit more thought this week.
Caught up with Richard over the weekend when he was having some work done, what a fantastic car he's got. Every damn option ticked! We had a little convoy on the M20, must have looked pretty awesome :p

Hey Micah! Good to have you on board, yes that convoy back on the M20 yours looks so on point lowered on Cooksports and the wheels with the offset you've chosen. It's a great looking 220, purposeful, everything on it is there to do a job. Be good to catch up again ?

Welcome aboard. It's good to have the mkIV represented on here and keep the club upto date. Someday these will be in demand when RS enthusiasts have the media blinkers removed and see how good they really are. It's a shame that didn't happen before Renault stopped building them.

Thanks, nice to be contributing on here. I totally agree, I don't think people will get over the gearbox/5 door thing until they have an extended test drive or passenger lap. Thankfully, my test drive at Renault Maidstone was done by someone who was actually into the RS stuff, so we had a good route and made sure I tried all the gearbox modes. Once I heard the bark on the upshift, I knew I had to have one.
I really slated the looks when the facelift was released, now I can't stop looking at it... I do wonder if the Mk5 will go back to sharper edges like VW has. To me, a Clio should always be curvy.

Cheers, good to be here! Thanks for the comments - you of all people should know how much I researched the springs/wheels combo, so it's great to hear that, and I'm so bloody relieved it's worked out on track so far. I just can't have any rear passengers with those wheels on (may as well remove the seats ;) )
Lovely to see yours in the flesh on Saturday, so jealous of the seats and Akra, a mighty find for sure.

These are growing on me, they seem so much more grown up than a 1*2 but not sure I could pick one over a Meg 250 in honesty. Lovely example you have though, glad you changed the wheels :)

The 220's looks great, Shame Renault didn't make the original Mk4 that spec.

got a real soft spot for them with a few mods on them.

Ill see you at Donny on the 13th, there in my Megane 250

Definitely more grown up and you lose that raw feel to it. However, it can be driven in different ways which is something I couldn't have in my Mk3 200 so it suits every occasion without TOO much of a compromise. More than happy to take you out in it if we're ever at the same track day :)
If I could have a dedicated track car, I'd definitely have a Mk3 Meg.

Awesome, please come say hi, there will be a few of us there with some Mk3's - both NA and Meg'd, plus a Meg Trophy pushing a good 345bhp!
Looking forward to trying a new circuit, a different driving style to Snetterton me thinks!

Hi Micah! Some nice mods you’ve done to that I must say! I too agree with the whole don’t knock it till you’ve tried it chat.. The centre silencer delete and In race mode is an absolute game changer. I currently have a white one also but a 2015 so no fancy fog lights for me ?

I’ve had a 200 and a fiesta ST and these are by far the best out of the 3. Be good to see your car in the flesh, are you bringing it to CSF?

We're all trying to convince him to join the MK4 brigade at CSF! [emoji23]

I think there's going to be a fairly decent turn out!

He’s like a pig in s**t with those, was epic on its debut at Snetterton last month!
Properly good kit considering they are road/track spec that don't have mega stiff spring rates on them.

Looking forward to seeing how my 2 ways compare on track to them haha
