Michelin Exalto deformed side wall

Guys this is pretty surprising...one of my front exaltos 2 on my 182 has got two lups in the side wall. Dont these tyres have a stiffer tyre wall etc..etc...

Have no idea how this could have happened - the fronts need a change anyway but still this shouldnt happen to a tyre of this type - time to write an email to Michelin, see what they have to say!

Heres a pic showing one of the lumps:

What are those marks on the rim? Have you curbed it or something?

I wouldnt drive over 50 or so with the tyre like that tbh!!! That could go bang if you go too fast, especially when putting it under load around a bend at high speed...

Have anyone found a anthracite touch up stick yet? Looks like you need one too.

Cant believe the curbing and bulge are not related. The wheel damage aint that bad but of course the tyre could have taken the brunt of it. I reckon that tyre has been into a curb pretty hard, that didnt happen on its own.

The thing is there is another smaller lump on the side wall exactly opposite to this one!

The only thing that could have done it was i drove over a pretty deep pot hole the other day - but would never have guessed it was bad enough to wreck a tyre.

never known a tyre to just do that , only ever seen it from ppl hitting kerbs or runnign over bricks or as u say pos a deep pot hole

the pot hole is your culprit.

dont forget the tyres take more of the impact when you have stiffer suspension.

ps glad you got a 182 despite me being useles in getting my contact to you!

Hmmm possibly a pot hole although Ive been through plenty in my time with no ill effects. Id still go for curbing myself.

If it is a pretty big pot hole and you know where it is I would take some photos and get a new wheel and tyre out of the council.

Could be a dodgy tyre, pity you have that damage on your wheel as they could use that as an excuse to get out of replacing it.

this happened to one of mine when i ran over a nail...

i drove the tire unaware while it was flat, ended up with a bulge..

The inside wall of the tire where the nail was had almost worn through a hole...

100% pot hole/curbing damage mate

its just the deformation that occurs when the tyre is made to stretch in a way its not meant to very very quickly.... rubber is not a wonder substance, it has limits and you have unfortunately exceeded those limits on two of your tires....

moral of the story is to avoid pot holes... become one of the group who drives like hes following a wiggly line on the road.... just avoid them....

(And yes Ive accidentally had this happen to my tyres)

dont look good.

afaik now michelin told me they only do the red dot tyres, so stiffer sidewalled ones all round then

Yeah I recon the pothole is favourite................one thing to be aware of is that there could be similar damage on the inside of the tyre aswell so there could be 4 lumps eh:eek:...........best change it ASAP.............you could try Michelin;)

Mate- im not being funny but I wouldnt be driving that at all. No way whatsoever. VERY VERY dangerous.

Sounds like slightly low pressure and a big pot hole.. get it changed pronto.

Thanks for the replies gang!

Yep will be getting my tyres changed in the morning - lucky Ive got a pair of PE2s ready to fit as theres only a couple of hundred miles worth of tread left on the ones on there. Would have cried if that happened to a newish tyre.

Hi to Iceblue.
