Michelin PS3's vs Continental Conti-Sport's

Looking to get a set of tyres for the M3 in the next couple of days, just wondered what peoples opinions on these tyres and what you'd get? Both are premium brands with no doubt the michelins being better but are slightly more expensive.

Michelins - £440 Delivered
Conti's - £380 Delivered

Reckon the michelins are rough the difference?

I would say as the M3 is German go with Conti...

I've had both, got Conti's on the 200 & had Pilots on my C2, they are both pretty good tyres, I wouldn't pay more for the Michy's tho.

Ah that's good, as ive got old/worn contis on my M3 that don't seem that great but I found the Michelin PE2's I've had before to be epic in the wet as well as great grip/comfort/quiet on the road. Only downside to them it seems is the reviews say they wear quicker than the contis.

Sarah's got PS3's all round on the TT, obviously she drives so quickly she needs 600 quids worth of tyres, but meh ...

They last about 10k on her car - so wear rate certainly isnt one of their strongpoints lol.

Personally I'd go for the Conti's

I've got them n the Clio and they feel planted in the dry and VERY predictable in the wet which is what you want

Also persuaded mother to get them on the Audi S5 and they feel good on a bigger car, no nasty under steer just very precise

Never had P zero's but have driven a number of Merc's with them fitted. Found them to be ok handling wise but pretty poor wear rate/wear pattern when they get low

In my experience contis wear rate is worse than any other brand I've used. I thought the ps3 were basically a replacement to the pe2 which had a great wear rate and all round performance

Ah more mixed reviews! Having looked on a few tyre review websites last night the PS3 have better percentage reviews to the conti's but not by much. The problem is the comments of each tyre vary so much, people saying they get 6-10k miles out of a set of PS3's and then others say they get 30k out of a set!

Only reason why I asked about the Pirellis is they are another £20 cheaper than the conti's.

Really I wanted the tyre that my E36 M3 originally came with, but since they've been discontinued the closest tyre is the PS3. So may well go with them, another thing that'll look good is when it comes to resale as not many of the E36 M3 owners fit them and with the mileage I do a year (2-2.5k p/a) they'll last quite a while if I don't sell it.

Ps3s all day long contis won't last five mins mate I work in the tyre trade have done for years we see quite a few m3s at my place.

I went from PE2's to Contact Sport 2's and yes Michelin's are better but it's negligible. Conti's seem quite a hard compound and if I'm going to be picky, slightly noisier than PE2's but I would be more than happy to save that bit of money again and buy Conti's

I've got Contisport 3's on mine Nick, done about 7/8k so you can check the wear on them next time.

I had PE2's on the 172, staggering amount of grip in the dry and wet and little wear for while I had them.

Hard to compare the Contis but I went for them because of their wet weather grip and braking ability. I read a lot of reviews and tests and have not been disappointed. That's more important to me because it's an everyday car. Because they were so highly recommended, I found it hard to justify another £200 for the PS3's. I got all 4 of mine (18s) for £640 fitted I think.

Heard of Vredesteins but never used them, thought they were a midrange tyre.

I had conti sport 5's, then went to ps3's on my LCR. The conti's chewed up after 5k, and wore unevenly. Wet weather they couldn't cope with standing water, and dry grip was good but not as good as the michelins. I'll be staying michelins again when I replace them, especially as they're in the 1a list for Combe.

Since I've owned it (a year this month) I've done 1200 miles in it! Think I'd only use it a max of 5k miles a year.

So are you really bothered about wear that much.. if they do 12k then thats like 2 1/2 years..

Personally on a car like that i'd want the stickiest ones available

I've had ps3s, conti 3s and Dunlop sport maxxes on mine and ps3 are by far the best.

Lol true, however if/when I come to sell it. Having good tyres with lots of tread is another better selling point seeing as I'd be commanding a premium amount of money for it I think.

Even with old worn out conti's there's enough grip matey, the car puts the power down easily without mega sticky tyres.

The number for that Brian chap would be lovely please, as I've said to my brother who deals with tyres also that it's a bloody minefield getting some. Messing about with load and speed ratings as that affects tyre wear etc also.

All I want is a premium set of tyres that have the correct load and speed ratings, that have great dry and wet handling properties that don't wear out quickly when driven sensibly. Also as said the brand has a factor in it come resale as I know if I was to be looking for an E36 M3 and it had Wanli's or ditchfinders on it, it would put me off massively.

I'm not asking for too much am I? Lol

It is a minefield with tyres especially when your talking top of the range ones.

Yeah I know plenty of people who wouldn't buy a car if it was fitted with cheap crap. I would probably be the same now to be honest working where I do lol.

nope has m3 on the side.

same as they do specialist tyres for porshe N1 ferrari K1 audi is AO merc MO ect.
the compound and tyre structure is slightly changed to the standard model tyre and is designed to work best with the cars suspension setup,weight power ect.
