Midges phase 1 Turbo.



I have been after a clio turbo for a while, we all know the clio is a great chassis but in todays market its a bit down on power, i was never going to pay for the conversion myself and im to lazy these days to build one myself so it was a case of waiting for one to come up for sale a couple had come up for sale but all needed bits doing to make them a better car (coilovers mainly) then this phase 1 came up for sale, a bit untidy looking imo but a great price and a great spec so i bought it. spec-

Engine -
Engine dynamics turbo conversion with AEM piggy back ecu
200 cell cat
side exit exhaust
green air filter
PMS gear linkage

Chassis -
polybushes up front
polybush dog bone
PMS solid top mounts
PMS strut brace
v-max front coilovers
gaz rears

Exterior -
carbon wrapped bonnet
painted front bumper and grill
Clio Williams wheels
Bonnet raisers
Carbon wrapped side strips
matt black wing mirror covers

Im pretty happy with the spec, ill be changing the exhaust for one that isnt so loud and get the gaz front coilovers to go with the rears

First thing i done was to remove the snap on handle from the gear stick and install the PMS gear knob

Today i bought a phase 1 that was local to me so i could swap over the panels that have been painted black (bonnet/bumper/grill) i was happy to find it had an aluminum bonnet! i swapped it over and put some silver wing mirror covers on that i had and it looks better already, ill do the other bits at the weekend

That's subjective, i think i got it for a very good price (i wont disclose though!) Hoping to have it all tidied up this weekend, i want to do the williams wheels silver but then im also thinking about putting some F1's back on it (i have 2 sets, well 10 wheels actaully!) going to put a carpet back in it and the plastics around the gear stick to make it more civilized!
 
Picked up this exclusive to take some interior pieces from and possibly the exhaust, i will be selling the other silver one once ive swapped over the bumpers!

Today i got some bits done using the other phase 1's for a few parts

And lastly i changed the air filter, i had the Ramair one sitting around and prefer it to the green one, i did also fit the engine cover but it rubs on the strut brace so left it off

And thats it so far, Things left i want to do

Paint the wheels silver
fit some interior back in
fit boost gauge
change front tyres to Paradas so all 4 match
change the exhaust.

Orange side repeaters ftw! Car looks better. Really like ph1's on willy wheels. I actually thought the snap-on pry bar handles was very individual and different in a cool way.

You keeping the exclusive badges? I got some standard ones and flatted them down, got some stickers in silver made up and painted the badges black. I believe Renault have discontinued the badges apart from the exclusive ones.
 
Had a bit of time yesterday so done a couple of little bits, took off the green icv hose and repalced it with an origanal black one that fits properly, also fitted an engine cover, and an origanal yellow oil cap, engine bay is never going to be concours but looks better! unsure what to do about the green parts tbh.

Installed these air ducts with 'help' from the cat, i'd actually prefer the fog lights but i cant fit the nearside one because of the intercooler pipe work but this is a good compromise!

Looks a lot better now! Do you know how long it's had the conversion? Seems very road/engine friendly figures, bet it goes very well?!
 
I forgot i have also used the Exclusive exhaust and fitted the de-cat back on, will get a couple of pics later, conversion is around 8 months on there, goes well enough, its just what the 172's need tbh! ill throw a link up later for the ducts £3.50 iirc, need to trim back to the lip on the fog surrounds and then they fit in quite tight, i added some duct tape on the rear jsut to be sure they dont fall out but i dont think they would anyway!
 
Ive had the second silver phase 1 172 for almost 2 months now, it was boguht purely to swap over the front end, i then bought the exclusive to nick some of the interior from it and the exhaust (the side exit on the turbo was to loud for me) the idea was to use the exhaust temporarily until i found a k-tec stealth as i had informed the 2.5 inch is perfect for my set up and i dont want to be hacking up my bumper.

The turbo with the Exclusive's exhaust on it (powerflow, non silenced center, quite a nice system! 2.25")

There was a stealth that went on ebay for around £120 but had had the middle silencer cut out and looked like 2.25" section welded in - not ideal there is one for buy it now at £250 but i didnt want to pay that so just decided to wait until something came up.

On tuesday i was swapping over the rear bumpers on the turbo and the other p1 as the one on that was better and i see this -

Yes, the silver phase 1 ive had outside my house for the last 6 weeks has the Exact exhaust on it i 'need' its got a silenced center to which is nice! (i didnt realise it had an aftermarket exhaust on it)

So pulled that off and swapped it with another system i have, and now the stealth ready to go on when i find time

Have to say a big thanks to my friend for letting me use his ramp to swap over the exhaust's, theres nothing i hate more than rollign around on the floor angle grinding off rusty shitty bolts! His name's Gary and has a unit near Littlehampton, he breaks clios and does all kinds of work (including belts/dephaser e.t.c) not on here but advertise's via facebook!

Yesterday i bought this Monaco 172, it was local, i bought because it came with some nice wheels and some brand new Gaz coilovers
im going to swap the coilovers over as mine has k-tec on the front, ill also take the dash and door cards from it and keep the wheels

Apart from some rear seats and possibly some proper track tyres, i have everything i want to finish the car off how i want it!

I love your ethos, 'buy a car with the bits I want on it and then punt it on for not much more after I've taken them off' top effort!

Really like the silver turbo and you've got the two best sets of wheels going, willy's and super's! Once you've got the interior looking a bit more club sport spec it'll be awesome.

Full phase 2 plastics and belts fitte including original phase 2 172 mats (need to source a carpet as the phase 2 carpet i have has been hacked up, also need the rear seats, possibly full phase 2 seats if i can get some at a reasonable price or a whole car to get them from!)

Set the heights up as i wanted and happy with how it looks and rides, just need to get the camber setup up properly

I'm almost finished with the car now, just need to get a carpet in it and a full set of seats, i dont think i will be doing the ph2 dash conversion as i dont want to be changing the functions off some of the buttons
 
I've got 2 mk2 dash's and the swap is easy but its the buttons that are a problem, there doesnt seem to be a way to get all working properly and i dont want to have the buttons doing the wrong things (AC button working the demister e.t.c)

Yeah I know it's not a perfect swap, I assumed as you were fitting the ph2 cards you were doing the dash :)
