Mikes Silver 172 project

I needed a RS Clio fix, been ages since I have owned one and finally got a 53 plate 172 for £500 with a possible broken belt.
Got picked up a delivered to me at 3pm today, ripped the head off it and then took the cylinder head off the clio...oh dear !!
Replacement engine time, droppped a valve and fooked a piston.
Quick look on ebay and a call to Renbreaker... another engine on its way.
Cant wait to get it all cleaned up , new brakes all round, going to keep an eye out for a set of alloys , exhaust and so on.

happy with the condition of it, should polish up lovely.
Now to the reason why you should get a specialist to do your belt or someone who knows what they are doing, standard of this cambelt change is shocking!!!

Paint mark central

Helps if you remove the old camshaft oil seals before fitting new ones , otherwise oil leak city.

One pissed off piston, note to self remove all the valve guide bits from inlet manifold!
Shamme really as its a fairly low mileage engine.
Updates to follow, I wont rush this one back on the road going to see if I can get it looking great.

Sadly Paul no won't have the engine in by then.
My apprentice Mac has just come out of hospital with a heart condition so don't know when he is back so I'm by myself for the foreseeable future.

Ah, shame the 172 isn't being repaired but the 182 looks well!

Well Macs back and on tablets for his heart so got him cracking on the 182 , he stripped the front end down and got all the shafts and so on out for me, I removed the old engine after work tonight fitted a new cambelt , waterpump , clutch and so on .
All ready to be fitted back in tommorow and finished off Saturday.
Got a phase quick engine going in it.

Would have loved to have painted it up making it all lovely but workload at work means this has got a be fitted ASAP , joys of running a garage hey!

It's all back together and runs really nice , always a worry with any used engine after all the work done.
New oils and so on done , new rear axle brake pipe and a cv boot ready for its mot retest Monday.
Fitted a set of Phillips daytime running lights in the bumper which I got for a fiver , bargain! !
Tommorow it's detailing time but I'm a bit of an amateur with that sort of thing.

Machine polished today , trims and so on next week. Happy with results got a fair few marks off the bodywork.
Weapons of choice and results

Use Farecla g3 first, medium firm cutting pad and a blue waffle pad for sealer , hand finished with carnauba wax.

Bit unsure on them but they cost a fiver usually £80 and fit nicely in the bumper gap.

Clio 172 ph 1 , well mknown for being the fastest out of the 172 range and after driving mine was a very good decision

Fitted rear spacers today well worth getting.
Nice quality and fit really well.
Really enjoy being back in a clio now.
