Mild tuning to Clio Sport 172 MK2

Friends,

Im the proud owner of a Clio Sport MK2 and Im looking into tunning its engine and breaks.

I was thinking about an air filter, a chip and exhaust. Can you estimate how much BHP increase is expected? Any recommendations about specific products/vendors?
I dont want to do anything radical such as turbo, or replacing cams, though.

Also, can you recommend on improved breaking system?

bye,
Yosi

Where do you live?
Im developing a 200bhp kit here in HK comprising of viper kit, chip, exhaust, and if that dont make it, then minor head work.

brakes only need uprated pads and softer discs..there race tested and fine.

Got ViperX + Exhaust installed. Getting my chip on Wednesday. I reckon 185Bhp plus or minus 5Bhp depending on starting figure. Hey Ben how are you man?, I dont think 200bhp can be reached with chip , exhaust and viperx. Or do you know something I dont

The braking system on the 172 is pretty damn good standard. if you need to upgrade it then start with front braided hoses, rears are solid metal from what I could see. Then Ferrodo pads. If you really need more than this then you would have to go for brake brake conversions like AP, Brembo etc etc.

Hi Man-Chun,

Thanks a lot for your info! Do you also use an air filter? If so what brand?
What chip will you be using?

Id be more than grateful if you can contact me on e-mail at:

cheers,

heya chun, been off for ages!
yeah, i think 200bhp could be attainable with a few mods. most of its is just increasing flow to the cylinders. a higher rpm limit means that i could get more air flowing in, but it might reach 200bhp at the top, but be a bit flat.

a bit done to the inlet manifold, maybe a little more lift on overlap etc etc. and if i were to port the heads slightly, then it would cost a fair amount.

Hehe sounds mental Ben, tell me what the outcome of your developments man Tommythecat Im running a piperx viper sealed induction kit and will be running a superchip as off wednesday.

Chun.

Ben m8 im getting the car rolling roaded straight after the chip. Now you mentioned some stuff a while back about rolling roads, something about ambient temp and tyre pressures. Could you tell me that stuff again It was also get the power at the wheels figure and not the calculated figure ya?.

Cheers

Chun.

yeah, im doin some development work witht the piper X people here, to make a realy good fitting and working kit.
and custom mapping a super chip, not as good as piggy back system etc, but there are no systems available for decent money here.

as far as RR go. Just get a print out of the torque and bhp @ the wheels. They should use the same axis (toruqe and bhp) and should cross at 5200rpm roughly....you can check this to see if there doin it right....BUT IT MUST BE ON THE SAME AXIS!

just use a high tyre pressure to reduce rolling losses. maybe a bit of ZX1 super lube in the engine and gearbox to reduce friction...anything can help, and its only 14 quid or so.

When on a RR, the operator can do all sorts of stuff to tweek the fnial calculated result. Eg...if he uses a high aimbient air temp, the computer will adjust, thinking that the air is thin, and estimate more power than you actually have, rolling losses added to the comp can screw you etc etc....jusyt keep it real with the @ wheel figures, its easy enoguh to make your own rough calculates for the flywheel figures.

BenR:
I have also got myself a Viper X and plan on fitting it soon. Where are you planning on getting the cold air feed from? I was thinking either the original pipe that runs down behind the headlight....to where I dont know , or removing the fog light and fitting the red scoopy thing there. Its a MK2 by the way. Also do you think I should do any other mods, although I cant run to a chip.

Appreciate your input.

Chun:
Lets us know how you get on with yours. Good luck.

Regards
Chris

Will do Chris. Ill post tommorow and tell you what its like with the chip and if the superchip is running properly straight away. One thing I do know is that the viper is a damn good kit for power and noise

Chun.

hiya, ill give customer the option of removing the fog light and puting the feed heere (although it will suck up ALOT of dirt and need cleaning after 6 months)
or i will pass it behind the fog lamp(after drilling 2 large holes forthe pipe to pass in and out of the housing) and locate it behind the lower grille.

Had my superchip fitted fueling was spot on. Feels better and smoother. Power run was 121.5 Bhp at wheels and 168 at the flywheel. Bit low This was done at Powerstation in cheltenham. The torque and power graphs crossed over at 6000+ rpm. Bot too happy with power of the car but it does feel better after the mods.

Chustn

What were the figures pre-chipping? So now all thats left is the exhaust?

Im waiting for NHs RR to come on stream.....need one place for mods/power testing...

ak

Ive got the exhaust already. Ill go that rolling road day and see what the other guys get I didnt do a power run before the chip was installed. The run showed a smooth power all the way to max power. He did say the final power output is different in other rolling roads.
