Miltek decat (172) compatibility question

  Mini JCW
On my 172 cup I currently have a piper cat-back exhaust, and am considering a decat as my next 'upgrade'.

I have seen a miltek decat from a local supplier for the 172 but it states it only fits miltek systems....

So my question is - will this decat fit 'other' systems? As my piper seems to match the cat fine - should I expect the miltek system to do the same?

Many thanks

Anthony

Can't say for certain but I would imagine they state that for a reason. You would be better off getting a custom one no?

I also seem to have a Milltek one since i got my 182 Manifold ; the guy had to improvise and cut up a milltek one to fit my K-tec Stealth. I can tell you the difference is most definately in the diameter of the pipework .

My experience with Milltek, may be of use ..

Problem is the only place i'd go for a custom decat would be prospeed, and thats hell of a trek!

Thanks for the reply :)

Hmmm, so the only reason your decat had to be modded was because of the bore diameter differences?

^^ well, the manifold lenght was different (longer) so a shorter cat/decat was needed to fit to the rest of the back system. Instead of welding on a clamp , the Milltec now fits over or into the K-tec system.. i will have to get under the car to check because i do'nt remember which . If the K-tec Stealth is a 2,5 inch bore then the Milltec must have a 2,25 bore to fit in. If the K-tec stealth has a 2,25 inch bore then the Milltec is 2,5 inch bore to fit OVER :S:) know what i mean ?

Yes, I understand what your saying, the bore difference allows one section to 'slot' over the other :)

Am considering a k-tec sports cat now, saves f*cking about come MOT time, may order tomorrow :)

^^ sportcats are expensive ! and they are NO guarantee to pass MOT ! I also had one on mine and ONCE it passed , the next years after it failed.

When going for the exhaustfumes test the cat should be red hot ; emissions are least/cleanest then

Good luck making your choice :)

Friend of mine have a sport cat for five years and never had problems with the exhaustfumes test. and the MOT here is very very strikt;)

it´s like franx sayd, drive a while so the cat gettin hot

get my K-tec exhaust yesterday and still waiting for the sports cat:)

maybe you paint the cat black with heat resistant paint (rattle can etc)
