Mk 1 won't start

Went to start my beloved mk 1 and when i turn the key i get a loud click and nothing else.

any ideas?

Battery coulld be dead try jump leads or a charger. Starter motor could be fried aswell.

Rock the car forward and backwards with it in gear.The Starter could be jammed.

definitely sounds like the starter to me

hit it with something like a big spanner and then try to start it

mine did this a while ago, rocked it and stuff and also cleaned the earth wire and connections up on the battery, no problems with it since.
