Mk1 172 Exhaust/Subframe

  Mk1 Clio F4R'd
Hi guys,

Got a major rattling problem, the flange on the manifold and the downpipe are pretty much touching the subframe.

Was at a powerflow dealer trying a get a new decat and downpipe made but he said he couldn't even manage to unbolt the exhaust and then said it'll still be hitting the subframe as there is too much work. He mentioned getting a washers to act like spacers so you can drop the subframe a little (doesn't sound too safe to me for some reason, i dont know)

What i was thinking was take the subframe off, cut off a little where the exhaust would go over and then strengthen it back up so there is enough room to fit the exhaust etc.

I was at A.A.S and he said i could do what i suggested, or even easier, would be to heat wrap that area just enough so its softens the knocking.

Help! :(

Plenty of room between the flange and subrame on mine, then clears nicely though the gap...Whats your downpipe been made from?

What size pipe are you running?

I had a good look whilst it was in the air and the top side is fine. its the bottom end when it goes over the subframe. The guy at powerflow says because of the angle of the flange, a new pipe will still hitting.

Where did you get your pipe made from? wonder if you could just order the same one lol

Its the same size as the proper 172 downpipe, as thats what its made from...

Take one 172 single box cat...

Cut the downpipe part off...

Take one Mk1 decat (only pipe I had to hand at the time), which is the same bore...

Cut one flange off and weld to downpipe...

Fit to car, adjust to correct length for Mk1 exhaust, then weld solid...

One finished downpipe that fits the gap perfectly and clears in both directions...

At the minute, it kind of looks like f0xy's but has two wholes for both lambda sensor's. Think i'll just try and build one and bolt it on myself.

Cheers for the help guys :D
