Mk1 172 Lights/bulbs...which ones???

Right I need to change the lights on my Mk1 172 as a) they a dreadfull, light up nothing, b) one of my side lights have gone. Trying to work out which bulbs I need but its giving me a headache. Car is in the garage being repaired so can't look. So from the below pic (sorry for using you pic Day) can someone tell me which ones I need. If you work from the outside to inside, is it Indicators, Dipped, Sidelights and Mainbeam?? Is the sidelight and maim beam diff. I get confused between all the terminology, ie dipped, mainbeam, full beam, low beam, high beam etc.

sidelights are the first click on the stalk, dipped beam is what you usually drive around on, main/full beam is what blinds everyone else and what you use to see down dark country lanes when no-one is coming the other way :clown:

Sidelights are probably 501's which you can get off ebay, from halfrauds, etc etc and are pretty much all the same unless you get LED ones (or expensive PIAA ones).

As for dipped and main beam bulbs (I assume you have separate ones) I would again recommend PIAA - their Hi/Lo range draws the same current as standard but puts out an amazing amount of light! Expensive, but you pay for the quality. Better than that is HID bulbs but they are like £150 lol

Thanks for the heads up.

I assume the dipped and main are seperate as they come from diff parts of the light assembly. Im actually after the bulb name, ie H7, H1 etc. I need the name of the dipped beam one, anyone help. Goging to get SilverVisions while Im at it too.

I thought the sports lights were pretty good tbh, I'm happy with mine but have uprated the bulbs to xenon gas filled ones and they are even better!! Tom wheres your car owners manual?? tut tut!

Lol...What a pillock. I can't believe I never looked in the Manual. Obviously haven't got tthe manual now as the car ain't here. But thanks you Mitch .

Yeah sports bulbs are Ok, but not sheading nowhere near as much light as they should.

dipped/low beam are HB3, Full/High beam are H7's

Silvervisions are prob the brightest, some say PIAA but i've yet to compare the two lol

No worries, I got mine off of here www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk

only the cheapy ones but was very pleased with them and is a noticable difference plus they did me a little discount as I order new wipers too.

Oh and I think the fogs are H1 iirc, are you still coming on sunday?

Well after searching around got some Blue Vision HB3, H7 and sidelights coming, and also some SilverVisions. In total £53 off ebay, postage was like 99p

Yep i'll be there Mitch, I'll getting a lift with Nick, as poor little car is still in the garage. They are making progress but having fun trying to source a front bumper
