mk1 172 steering wheel vibrational noise problem

  RSTUNER'ED-C&B'ED RS-1
Hi All
Steering wheel vibrates especially while passing over the bumps (uneven road surface) and makes an irritating noise. Surely it is not a balance problem since it runs perfectly ok on the high way at even high speeds. Mileage on the car is 80 k. Where could the problem be? Thx

  53 Clio's & counting
i would hazard a guess at a possible shock problem mate? iv had this in the past with a previous clio where i would get this vibration through the wheel, upon replacing the front shocks i found they were badly worn and you could feel the movement in them just by pushing by hand :s

Ok will check them mate. Is there any likely place possibly worn out in the steering system such as a sleeve or collar?
