if the pads are held in by sliders the brakes are bendix

LoL! I had this same question a few weeks ago and got a more complex response! :) got there in the end however.

Mouthyman; I 100% recommend Tarox fast road pads (Http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk) I have a Mk.1 1.4 and found teh brakes so crap... got these and they rock!

Do they really make a huge difference?

Running them on standard discs?

Yup, standard discs (they were in good nick.) It may be that my old pads were shot to crap! :p

However, I can now lock-up on grippy tarmac at pretty much any speed... I know its not something to boast about, but thats with some very grippy 195/45/15s!!! Previously, my old pads couldnt lock-up if I tried.

I'd say my stopping distance from 60mph is down by 25-33%
