Mk1 Car Odometer & Trip Meter problem

Hi posting this for a mate of mine who has no internet access.

He's having a problem with his Mk1 172 when he parks up at night his trip meter/MPG/avg mph etc keeps going to zero?

He has looked at the push button to reset it and this seems to be fine (not loose).

has anybody got any theories or solutions to his problem.

i've got that prob, so have a few others on here. apparently the fix is a new circuit board or something expensive, i think its due to the cold wheather. i'm gonna wait and see if it cures itself in the summer! not as if its a major issue for me
