Mk1 Clio Owners Please...

  A ANIMAL
Hello my lovers...

Basically the Mrs has a 1998 1.4 RT. The sunroof has been leaking as per normal. I have re-sealed everything and it seems to be ok but recently the immobiliser has stayed armed and is now refusing to start.

I'm thinking water has damaged the printed circuit board for the infa red key reciever and therefore will not disarm the immobiliser.

I have tried changing batteries in the fob to no avail. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers, T5

yeh i think its a common problem, water leaks in through the aerial and gets into the reciever, i'm sure i have read somewhere that removing it and letting dry out can help

not 100% sure on that though? :S

Ive heard the same thing. I was doing some work at a school and the caretaker had a mk1. Sunroof leaked, central locking stopped working, immobiliser fucked, car wouldnt start. Took it to a few garages and they couldnt fix it. Took it to renault and they wanted rediculous amounts of money for a new immobiliser and new keys which apparantly had to come from france. He ended up scrapping the car as the repairs were more than the car was worth.:(

Had plenty of this is in the past!

Remove the board and leave it indoors in a warm place for as long as you can, check the battery in the fob too, you never know, seal the reciever in a freezer bag or something similar and try it again - if that doesn't do it then the easiest thing to do is to source a replacement fob and matching IR reciever, swap them in and it should disarm the immobiliser - might have to take the battery off for a while first.

Also in my previous experience its not always the sunroof leaking that kills the recievers its the aerial base leaking that does it, try sealing that up as well as the sunroof.

On my old valver I gave up and got a Toad Ai606 installed, fucked off all that IR crap! the toad takes over the factory immob and being RF you can ALWAYS get in the car - best £200 I've ever spent.
