MK1 Dash swap, help!

Car  1996 1.2 8v clio
Hi everyone, owned my clio 96 MK1 clio 1.2 for just over a year know and just found this site, wish i had found it alot earlier!

Anyway my dash was the basic speedo and petrol so I bought a 2nd hand dash with all the gauges from a 1.4 so i was told, i have plugged it into my car and everything works apart from the rev counter, any ideas why?

And also how do you disconnect the speedo cable from the back of the speedo?

Thanks for any help in advance.
Dan

Ok guys been looking around and there is alot of info about a module on a phase 3 and that you need special wiring ect but i have a coil pack, could i not take a feed from that and wire it into the connector on the back of the rev counter?

As yours is a Ph3 (i think) you need the dials from a Ph3 due to something with the way the rev counter is done on the D7F DIET engine.

Ive got a rev counter etc from a 1.4rt clio in my phase 3 clio.

The rev counter is a pickup in the gearbox just to let you know.

Speedo cable is dead easy to take out, just yank the white part end at the dial end hard and it will come out. It is clipped in so you need to really use a bit of strength to get it out.

The rev counter isnt needed however, as you should be able to hear the engine and know when to change gear rather than use the rev counter.

However it could be that the connection on the flexi ciruit board is faulty, so just clean the whole board up with electrical cleaner.

Then try it and see if it works.

ok thanks will give it a go, i have been driving using engine noise for a year and a half now but i got the dash cheap and thought would be interesting to see what rev's it sits at on the motorway ext

I had a Ph3 Mk1 1.2 and the Clio 16v dash clock worked fine for me, except the middle three!

i changed mine a few months ago because i didnt have a rev counter and wanted one, fitted one from an RT but still dosnt work, have heard that it need to be connected to the gearbox in order to work

ok seems everyone has had the same problem, anyone with ideas on how to connect to the gearbox? or what wires to link the rev counter 2?
