mk1 Hybrid question

  Trophy #473
hi all

To hybrid my valver i know i need an F7R bottom end or a complete williams or F7R magane engine. Can i use another renault 2ltr bottom end from a laguna 2.0 8v? or is this completely different, Im thinking it is but just checking the obvious. Would ask on williamsclio, but i cant seem to open an account.

Would i be better using a full Megane F4R 710 engine, than a williams, i know the heads are better for throttle bodys and headwork, but the fact that it has DIS rather than old skool points seems to make more sence.

I will be going along the path of forced induction, but im not at that stage yet, so bearing that i mind. williams and especialy full megane engines seem to either be uber ££££ or like rocking horse shite to find. At the moment the F7P is fine but after the car has been setup and finished i will be wanting some proper power.

thanks

nathan

The laguna 8v bottom end will not fit, think they can be put on an RSi head but definately not on a 16v head. Apparently the megane head is supposed to be a bit better as you say, but to run it you would need to have the head machined to run a dizzy cap in order to use a williams ECU. If you wanted to use the megane set up without the dizzy it's a pain in the arse and I've only ever seen one hybrid running that set up so would not suggest it at all.

It is possible, but there are a number of complications I believe. I don't know much about the electrical side of things though tbh so I'll leave explaining it to someone else. Try asking over on retro-renault.co.uk as chris_h on there will be able to explain. As I say though everytime I've seen anyone ask about it they have been told it's much, much easier to use the williams head/ecu or have the megane one machined.
