MK1 Inside Door Release

Anyone know how they work? I got out of my car earlier and the thing feels a lot lighter, it doesn't return to it's position after pulling it to open it, ie stays out liek your holding it to open the door, also you have to pull it back further, sounds like a streched cable to me if it goes how hard is it to replace?

p.s according to my haynes bible its only a rod and a spring, do you reckon the springs popped out?

no cables involved really....

Hmm okay Martin cheers, so really theres no reason for it to fail even if it doesn't return fully, I mean at the moment it opens alright just has a bit of slack on it if you know what I mean, you've got to return it to the closed position.
