mk1 ph3 leaky roof ?

is this a common problem?

on my mk1 ph3 water is leaking in through the roof after a downpour into the sunroof/interior light console and wetting me when i go round corners!

im guessing its either the sunroof seal or the aerial ?

is this a common problem?

cheers

in a nut shell yes.

Ive resealed my sunroof and sealed around the arial, it has stopped it for now...

Apparently its to do with the sunroofs not having drainage holes or something.

Not too sure how to fix that problem though?!

so basically remove the sunvisors and the roof console and peel the roof lining back then go mental with a tube of sillyc**t??

thats what i was planning on doing at work lastnight but left early instead. lol

job for tonight

along with a full service.

No, I just neatly masked of the sunroof on the outside of the car, and used a clear silicone to seal the gap.

Thing is, it was sealed by the person before me who done a s**t job of it, so I had to use silicone remover first. Was a nightmare job like, but with a bit of patients it has paid off.

Well, i was going to take the headcloth down, but i couldnt be bothered making a mess of it.
So i drilled 4 holes just at the bolts in the inside(rear of the sunroof) and unscrewed it with a deep socket. Then dropped the front head cloth partially and got in to the others(no more holes). I sealed all the way around my sunroof where the plastic meets the bodywork. I used Windscreen sealer, its the toughest stuff, also it doesnt set, so it moves and bends with the car.

The seal was broke underneath the carriage so just sealed the whole sunroof and the ariel.

My post says it all how to do it.

rct - dont suppose you have a piccie of these holes you drilled?
They are no bigger than a penny size for 4 of them in the rear of the headcloth.

However you need to take the other bolts off too and then to take the front down of the headcloth to get into them, so i did that and drilled the holes in the rear to get to the bolts. I lined them up before i drilled to get the deep socket in.
