Mk1 V6 vs Trophy - What Would You Buy

You can pick up a reasonable condition Mk1 V6 for around 13.5k but for that sort of wonga you could also pick up a brand new limitied edition Trophy.

Which would you buy?

I would go for the Mk1 V6, no question!

Hard one to call.

I cant ever see the Vees changing hands for £5k or something but then again the Trophy is a limited edition.

Im not talking from experience, but from the mouth of someone who has driven both. I was told that the mk1 V6 has too many problems and is not a pleasure to drive day to day.

For everyday driving and for practicality, the Trophy/182/ 172 wins hands down.

I drive mine EVERY day!
I do 1500 miles a month on average.
I find my mk1 V6 VERY pleasurable to drive day to day!

That said, the Trophy probably is more practical and easier to live with, but if I had the chance to swap, I would stick with what I have!

As has been said, V6s are unlikely to drop much lower in price, especially now the last of the 255s are being sold.

As for the trophy, didnt people think the Williams values would never drop below £5k... yet theres plenty on ebay now for the £2k mark.

really! from a motorsport guy!!!

trophy all day every day.

i had a MK1 v6 for 1 day then gave it back.

trophy, i dont think the v6 is that quick
What about the "look factor"?
i dont think the mk1 looks good from the front, i prefer the mk2, but yeh the v6 has the wow factor, shame about the speed

Its a bit like comparing the Escort Cosworth with the Focus ST170. Theres only one winner!
yea, the one that goes.........

I use my car every day as well and agree with 137699...........but........if the trophy sounded anything like my V6 then Id probably give it a second thought then jump back in the Vee................so the Vee all the way every day :D

Once again this has become a V6 v/s 172/182/CUP (& now) /TROPHY tennis match. There are 2 camps, and very little common ground!

As Wimbledon is now over, lets just leave each to their own, and heres to driving a fast Renault Clio (whatever the badge or engine), rather than a Citrus Paxo or a Plug 903!

Cheers!

i think the mk2 v6 looks very very nice, i drove one and i never have had so much attention in any car ever, its just a shame there not very quick, they need to go as fast as they look

V6.

I love the 172/182s but sorry the V6 is a different type of car and even though its not me Id still want one.

I think this is a regional reaction. I live in Hampshire, and no-one gives me a 2nd look driving round in the Vee. I might as well be driving a Mondeo!

If I take it to Essex its a different matter entirely with every boy racer wanting to have a go, and look all over the car, and last week I was in Sheffield, and it was like I came from a different planet... everyone stopped, stared, and bottom jaws could be seen dropping for miles around!

P.S. Thats not meant as a bad reflection on Sheffield (in case anyone takes offense!). Im a Blades fan by the way!

They are as fast as they look, if you can drive them. Weve all been brought up on FWD cars. RWD+mid engine is totally different, more difficult to drive but ultimately much quicker. Ive done 5 trackdays in mine since I bought it - still getting used to it, but I know its miles faster than my 172 if only I can get to grips with it.

Too right Johnny, I drove from the Travelinn at Meadowhall across to see my mate in Meersbrook (nr Woodseats) and drove through Attercliffe, round the City Centre, down Chesterfield Road etc.

You could probably trace my route by the amount of drool on the pavement caused by all the passers by who just stopped, and dropped whatever they were holding!

Like I say though, round here, its like Im invisible. Even the max-brigade in Andover, Winchester & Basingstoke hardly give me a look. Dunno if thats cos theyre jealous and dont want me to know it, or because the think of the Vee as an old-mans car - i.e. very few 17-19 year olds can afford one (to buy, insure or run) so probably best not to think about them!

you didnt even take it over 4k revs :p takes time to get used to the car, i can get mine round corners quicker now than i ever could in the 172.
