mk2 172 - engine tap/rough

Not another thread about the 2.0l being tappety as I know they all are.

My tap is not coming from the engine block area, more when you hold your head over the drivers side headlight/toward the central left hand site of engine.

Wondered what makes the tap,tap,tap,tap noise ?

could it be the engine cover or the bit that you lift up to put oil in, tapping??

No thats solid - its not a major worry but would be nice to shine some light. Its definately an engine noise, but thought tappets/valves/injection would make the noise more centrally in the engine block

my tapping is on tick over toward left above headlight

I have had this trouble. Could be PAS pump, water pump, cambelt.
