You can get them apart yes, but I don't think that's how you go about altering the beam.

Beam pattern? Surely your bulb/s must be fitted upside down?

You can't 'alter the beam pattern' as that is imprinted on the case lens.
Are they visibly dirty?

Have you tried the adjusters?

How was the beam wrong, as in too low/high or was it scattered?

just tried adjusting, all it does is raise / lower beam

the problem is the beam when projected at the mot station / or a wall.. is not straight.
it flares up at the ends

i think the headlamp lenses (plastic) are just aged, heat degraded and warping the beam

no alternative..
new headlights me thinks

thanks all though

The beam is meant to give that pattern though I'm pretty sure.

Something like this ___/ ___/ is normal.

It would be the other way though, no? Raised at the nearside to light the pavement/side of the road?

correct

da's post is a left hand drive beam patten.

sounds more like the bulb in the wrong way, nowt to do with the actual lamps

Theres no way of being sure by adjusting them yourself, take it to a garage that does MOT's they will have the equipment to get them set right, if they tell you they can't set them then think about new headlights.
