Mk2 ph1 ecu,key swapping

Hi i've a 1998 mk2 ph 1 1.2 8v which i never got a remote key with,i've just swapped the ecu,receiver in roof,ecu and decoder on ignition and key using my cars blade for a known good matching set from a 1999 mk2 ph1 1.2 8v,i've tried to resync(excuse spelling) using the common guide,it wont start and the remote doesn't work the locking,i've done this sort of thing with other cars etc and all was well,what am i missing ?,i was sure i'd swapped all that was needed and it was working yesterday on the original car before removal,help please as i need the use of the car tomorrow,thanks
