Mk2ph1 1.2 -- Mk2ph2 172 ????

Can it be done? i was wondering if i should sell my car to get a 172 replica or similar and then that struck me^^ lol

can it be done?

mk2ph1 1.2 into a mkph2 172 (bumpers skirts etc?)
as i understand it with the correct wings skirts and front bumper it can but it will require a little welding?

No welding needed just a lot of changed parts.

Buy a 172 is much cheaper.

side skirts

Front grill (£45 I think)
Rear spolier as well.
ALso you'd idealy want spacers as the front suspension is wider on a 172.

Total list price was something like £2k last time I looked. Not including painting. You'd get it from a breakers yard etc cheaper but its still a lot as when you add it up you could have a 172. IMO just leave it a year build up some NCB and get the proper thing.

yeah i see were your coming from but i will never be able to afford one untill im about 21/22

iirc you will need a new slam pannel, new lights, the pannel that goes accross that holds the light and bonnet catch hole, bonnet needs to be raised slightsly, matt black has done it

Get some 172 "look" sideskirts, 172 mk2 rear bumper and colourcode the grey bits and you'll look just like me only slower.

day, i dont get it, mk2 ph1 and mkp ph2 are completely different, surely u would get a mk2 ph1 kit instead. Or am i getting my mk's and ph's confused hmmm

The rest can be changed without too much work, trust me.

you'll have to pay a load on insurance as well as the 2k on parts remember. As edde says its a straight fit just too much of a ballache to bother lol

Great cars and now I'm selling my Trophy.

you will need

Bonnet £80

grille £25

O/S & N/S front wings £70

2 x headlamps £80

frt bumper £80

O/S & N/S headlamp panels £60

You dont need to change the front panel, just the headlight panels.

did you ever concider buying a y reg mk2 ph 2, then doing that up, you can get them for less than £3000, then all you need is the bumpers, skirts and spoilerplus one look at your interior and the jiggis up any way., plus for the full effect you'll need the side strips as well.
sorry but from looking at it, it seems a hell of a lot of work and expense, the labour would be hundreds and the painitng, you looking the best part of a full body respray, what about at least £6-700, for a decent job.
then you need to take into th concideration your insurance, to trade up to a ph2, might cost about an extra couple quid a year ( when i was reserching my new car i think it was like £5 more for ph2 than a ph1) but think of what the mods to you ph1 would cost on insurance may be a couple hundred quid, and you'd probs need to go to a different insurer, as alot will not even touch mods till your 25, if you go that route wait until your insurance is up before youstart work or elese you could have to acrafise what NCB you had build up that year (cancelling 11 monts in will in most cases, not count as a years ncb).

Just seems like a lot of hastle to me.

The one on the previous page is quite impressive, but the parts don't fit properly. There's a huge gap between the grill/headlights and the bumper.

Matt, yours is one of my favourite non rs ph1s on here. Personally think it would be a shame if you made it into another 172 replica.
