mods - invalidate warranty

  Black 182 + Recaros

Ive just been told by Renault that I cant have the suspension mount modifications on my 172 because Ive fitted an uprated suspension. This invalidates the warranty for all steering relating items.

So what happens if I stick a new exhaust on, will they not cover any engine problems ?

Mate they must prove the mod caused the failure IIRC mate, a cat back exhaust shouldnt really come in to it.

the normal case now regarding warranty is that if your car is modified (i.e. not factory standard) then the warranty is deamed invalid.

i was always led to believe if a problem occurs as a result of a modification, then the problem will not be covered under warranty.

however, not all dealers are aware of these new guidelines and in some cases, you may still get things done under warranty.

dont worry. the MODIFICATION is not really worth it.

Im getting a very loud knocking / rumble noise whilst turning and driving over bumps.

I was told this could be fixed by replacing the suspension mounts plus the extra modification that many people have done.

I wouldnt normally consider having this done, but it has got worse. Itll cost me £130 though.:(

They never mentioned my mods when I had warranty work done. I think each dealer makes their own rules, by the sound of it.

ive had almost my whole car rebuilt mechanically and got a few mods.. not a problem...

Going on on from what Devil said earlier.. if these new guidlines came out then a company like reno would surely have them round to everydealer like a shot... so i cant really believe that.. unless there is an undermining loophole.. i.e: reno dont actually pay out of THEIR pocket todo warranty work... it may all be via their insurance company or 3rd party warranty place.. so to reno it doesnt matter if the customer pays OR if their warranty place pay them for the work - they still get paid either way.. or am i wrong.. if i am wrong then how has mine and many others on here got away with warranty work when the dealer could have easily said no because of Modification X.Y,Z etc... confused..
