Mods Not Declared

Had an accident recently when i hit a curb killing my nearside alloy and suspension after being cut up. Only thing is that i changed my 16"s to 17" without telling my insurance company as i heard they dont replace mods when you claim, just charge you for having them. Anyone had a similar experience or have any USEFUL advice. Hoping theyll either leave me to replace it or fit a standard wheel as the car is insured just not the new wheels.

shady mate! if they felt like it, they could void your policy for not declaring them! i would say it would only be replaced wi std kit. Rob.

Fingers crossed then.

My cousin smased up his 106 GTi and had lowered it and had a Magnex zorst without declaring them and got them replaced with standard parts. All depends what the insurance company are like i suppose. Im with elephant.

Read his thread about his accident. His accident was down to his aftermarket tyre blowing so they can pin the blame on that. Im just wondering whether the fact that my wheels didnt cause my accident will make any difference. Im quite happy to buy a new wheel/tyre if they want.

did u buy the car from new ? if not just tell them that they are the wheels that were on it when u got the car and hope for the best, if it was from new just plead ignorance if they say anything - something like, i did not realise that you had to declare tham as i was just replacing the alloys that were on it for some different alloys type of thing.

that wont work, due diligence might, but you wouldnt get anywhere with pleading ignorance

anything is better than saying - well i knew i should have but i did not want to pay any extra it might have cost me, type of thing.

All sorted last week. Bought a new wheel and spoke to the repair place and they fitted it no questions asked. Bet theyll make a fortune from Elephant anyway. Repainted parts look better than when Renault made them. Cups back in action again. It took over a bloody month for them to finish tho and theyve lost a "2" from one of my CUP 172 badges on the door. E-bay here i come.

lol u where lucky..

i put 17"s on my dynamique n rang renualt insurance saying "my m8s sellin me some cheap.. if i buy them do i have to pay for them to be covered". She said, "yes, if u dont and u crash the policy will become void and we can refuse payment".

Still not declared them, but its costin me £205 extra too on insurance that alrdy £966 >:(

After reading all about conners experiance, i cannot believe some of you:mad:

If you cannot afford to pay the premium dont buy the mod, simple as that.

Idiots

^^^^ yup you are a fool not to declare mods basically you might as well play russian roulette if you come to claim cuz you stand a fair chance of getting caught out. if the insurance refuse to cover you you stand the chance of paying to sort damage to yours and the other car (whos to say you wont hit something expensive like a bmw or porsche etc) and god forbid someone is hurt or even killed you have no legal cover whatsoever. just as bad as the tw*ts driving round with no insurance at all

Dude why dont you save the £966 then? What the f is the point in having insurance if its gonna be voided.

Youve effectively paid £966 for a piece of paper whos only value is that you can claim you have valid insurance when you get pulled over for a producer.

You are just as bad as the uninsured drivers on our roads.

My mods are declaired on my 5 but i only have a zaust hoses and DV.

Iam 3pft.

I was told you dont have to declair mods to your insurance compnay if your 3party? that true?

you need to declare mods whether its just 3rd party, or fully comp.

all mines declared, couldnt afford to cover my own back if i cause an accident, or the car gets stolen

Dont know the full details of this but is this suggesting that because the tyres were different to factory fit it was classed as a modification? Was it simply different make - i.e.e Goodyear instead of Continental or were therer other factors?

Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick herer but am curious as to what happened.

" This conversion is not registered with DVLA so it is only Gp 12 insurance!" surely having a 2ltr car over a 1.8 is a bigger risk than having alloys on your car or not??

Edit: sorry smokey i dunno if youve registered it on not now if you have the above does not apply

i had full write off on my old car, had it loweered full bodykit, induction kit, 17s, bucket seats, lexus lights and leather back seats. was insured with norwich union no mods declared. was a fault claim hit a bmw. claim took 4 months to sort, after playing the innocent and acting as if didnt know i had to declare, they maid me pay the extra of £345 and they paid me out for total write off

Why dont people just declare their mods?

Ive just been quoted an extra £42 to add springs onto my policy (Elephant) - thats for the remaining 7 months up until renewal next year. Do I mind paying it? Yes, Id rather not have to pay but Ive budgeted for it because I see it as an integral part of doing a mod. If you cant afford it, dont do it - simple!

Yeah i paid an extra £60 with elephant for my alloys and lowering, on top of the £700 odd a year with the exhaust declared. I would rather be covered than take the risk.

This reminds me i must add my induction kit to the policy!

I declared my Magic Tree....

Seriously, like Loony and Smokey have said, if you arent going to declare your mods, you might as well not bother with insurance. That wasnt an invitation to not be insured by the way!

Exactly!
Ive even got my clear side repeaters declared!

i didnt declare my mods to my insurance company, then i changed to adrian flux and declared them and my policy was reduced by 500. just goes to show that specialist firms are the way to go.
