Im thinking of whacking these on the car, but ive read on here that the standard gearknob is a right pain to get off, and i dont really fancy sawing it! Could i damage anything if i just twisted it really hard? (anti-clockwise i assume!) Is the gearstick shroud/boot easier to replace?

Also, whats the score with the bit under the knob that you pull up to get in reverse? its gona look a bit gash if i have to leave that on :dapprove:

One last thing :) Is the handbrake easy to replace? I get the feeling it involves pissing about with cables...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers

ps
these look nice ;)

I guess no-one has replied cos ive rambled on a bit ;)

The main thing i want to know is how the gearstick lifty bit comes into play when replacing the knob

yeah you do need a specific lift-up reverse gearknob. getting the other one off is either exceptionally easy, and just twist it off. but i ended up having to cut it off with a junior hacksaw.

the handbrake needs to be cut off aswell. 'has' has installed a momo one and it really does look nice, however the only problem i can forsee is the leather gaitor tucking into the plastic base surround as i cant remember what he did with his.

the gearnob is easily twisted off with swan neck pliers, anticlockwise, and if you struggle taking it off this way, then get a hair drier an heat the bottom of the gearnob, melt the glue a bit then do it, was a doddle!!took me 5mins.however the handbreak i cant help with
]and you will need specific lift reverse gearknobs.....and why you have to cut it off with a hacksaw?!

I had richbrook ones and once you get the old off its pretty easy but i did need to cut the both of them off with a very very sharp stanley knife
as stated above needs to be a lift up reverse gearknob when you take of the old its just a case of putting the new in place and tightening a few screws , in fact the handbrake is exactly the same

Hope that helps

Hi I have a momo gear knob on mine, as everyone else has said, easy to do.
The handbrake bottom jus pops off, then you are left with the handle. You need to saw this off and you are left with a thin piece of metal and a black button. I have that exact handbrake you want to get. you need to remember to order the end cap and button for it as they dont come with them for some stupid reason! Once thats done jus screw up the 3 grubs on it. You then need a leather gaitor and jus slip it over the top and tuck it into the bottom surround left from your original one.

Good luck,

Dave
