The springs are what keeps tension on themGood effort bud. I don't trust those spring retainers myself, always just use some lockwire.

Also, I forgot to mention as I'm quite sleep deprived. The legend that is @Louis came round yesterday and adjusted my PMS shifter as well as cable tying up some other bits. It feels better and I can get it into 2nd better, I'll have to take it round the car park at work and give it a proper test, I need to bed the brakes in slightly anyway
