More cambelt talk

So now weve established the price of a new cambelt, and in other posts weve discussed main dealer fitment rather than "Als Auto repairs". Has anyone had their belt snap on a 172 and been out of warranty?

What was the damage? and cost?

Also If you get it done at the dealers do they supply any guarantee for your engine?

yeah 72k or 5 years, whichever is sooner.

im sure a reputable company like gdi would do it for a less than a main dealer.

3 years, 4 years, 5 years... who knows!

Had mine done at 34,000 miles before the engine went bang!

  172 cup'd extreme

1. i wouldnt trust renault with my car
2. get it done sooner than later if you thrash it sooner
3. there are loads of specialists about who can do a decent job for half the price of renault gdi etc.

where ru ?

I had mine replaced at 54k as it sounded a bit noisy and i didnt want a bill for +£1000 !!!

The job cost me £380 which also included changing the water pump which was squeaking like a good one and was starting to lose pressure.

If your car is coming up to 5 years then dont ignore it, mileage means nothing. If you do a lot of stop/start driving then the belt takes a hammering.

lol - seems illogical that you can have a cambelt change for a third of the price of a new engine!

Was a lad that came on RSC with a mk1 172 on 48k with a snapped belt, he was looking at around 1500 in parts alone, not a happy chappy. Not worth risking it, I paid 300 quid from a local garage for cambelt kit fitted and 1 years warrenty, mine mk1 172 was on 42k at the time, didnt wanna risk it.

On my Vts it went on about 54K but it was still under warranty at that point. So if your under 3 years old and under 60k is it not a bit daft getting it changed cos you could get a whole new lump??

What im saying is if renault recommend 72k and it goes before then and your above 60k are they liable??
