More power for a 1.4RT

Can anyone ngive me any ideas how to get more power out of my engine. I am sick of little boys in their Saxos & Corsa tearing away from me at traffic lights so its time for the clio to fight beack.

Youll be able to keep up with VTRs and 1.4 SRI Corsas but youll never be able to keep up with the VTS, you should be able to keep up with majority of mk1 corsas, fastest is the GSi I think running at 0-60 in 9 seconds. Same goes for mk2 Corsas, fastest is the 1.8 16v at 8 seconds.

I say keep up though cos youll never be able to cane the likes of the SRi models and that, 0-60 around 10 seconds similar to the RT. My RT will run 0-60 in 10 seconds on average, late 9 seconds on a very good day.

Tis possible to 130bhp out the 1.4RT though, go onto RSC forum, someone with extensive hill power mods on the 1.4 which pushes it up to 130bhp, RR I think.

That someone was me. Go look for a topic marked "I am not impressed, not a bit (RT) or something like that. I did a test last night and got approx 17 seconds 0-60. Not impressed at all. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR



Still as Essex Lad says, chip, induction and exhaust. There isnt really any point in doing anything to major because you might aswell save the money and get a valver. But if you really want to then look at Hill Power, because they will do a lot.

lose the spare wheel an clean all the junk out of your car

get to Hill Power an get de-cat, induction kit, and stage one chip.......and also get a full exhaust system, i recommend the K-Tec ones

if you get it all at once you will definitely notice a difference

will a backbox and decat be the same as an exhaust system? the amount of pipin isnt that much, my back box much av been bout 4ft long then the decat bout another foot!

Lol, 17 seconds to 60, summits seriously wrong there. Im at 10 seconds, 11 seconds on a bad day, 9 seconds on a very good day. Mine seems to struggle after 80 but rocket to 80!! lol

doubt i can do 9 seconds, but ive done 11 seconds before, thats down from 12.5 seconds standard

also im 74bhp at the wheels so id say at least 90bhp at the fly, so im up 10bhp+

Tell me about it! I will get the thing serviced then beat it with a stick.

Id imagine a good service should bring it down a fair bit! Mines serviced once a year and when I bought it I ran some 10k boost through, load of black crap come out and it stunk so imagine that did summit!

I think the factory figure of 12.5 and 11.5 for phase 2s is generous, as most are.

Its not been serviced for well over 18 months. I told my dad it needed doing, he insisted it didnt. Found the service book the other day, proved me right. Saying that though, I only thought it had been just over a year. 13 months or something. Still what cant talk cant lie as they say.

Just booked it in for an induction kit and a tune up. Next time I am going to buy a car already done up this is starting to get expensive but worth it.

nah way, would rather buy it Standard and do it myself, At least you know whats been done then, and how its been looked after!!

Theres only one place where I live that will even attempt it (local garage) so Im a bit limited for places to go but they done an excellent job on my rear bumper so Im not to worried.

put the induction kit on urself if there chargin u for that!

get a hill power induction kit mate.....the others are crap....

also fit it yourself it is VERY easy......

another thing, ask what there gonna do to tune up your car, its probably just an oil an plug change

Havent got a clue what the tune up involves and if i put the induction kit on myslef somethings bound to go wrong I dont have much luck with cars Ive not even been driving 2 years yet and this is my third car.

mate, trust me, no matter how thick you are, you can fit an induction kit

you cant really tune the engine mate without messin with the ECU, which means gettin a chip

your first thing to do should be to give the car a damn good service, if it doesnt need one then start buyin some stuff

id definitely take a trip to Hill Power if i was you....im from Merseyside an it takes ages for me to get there.....

how much do you have to spend ?.....what mods has your car currently got ?

Would be willing to spend a couple of hundred quid not really got any performance mods been concentrating on the bodywork & Ice. The only performance mod Ive made is the exhaust but its not really a mod or any help with the perfomance and I am too embarased to say what exaust it is so I would bee will to spend between £300 - £500 to start with.

right, ring Nick at Hill Power and get the following


Stage 1 Chip
Induction Kit
De-Cat pipe
with fitting aswell i doubt that would be more than £300, also make sure your car is well serviced, like change the oil, check all the fluid levels, change the plugs, get a new dizzi cap and rotar arm (most seem to forget about this)

if you want then Nick could definitely service the car for you too....

i can guarantee you will notice a difference if you get that lot done at the same time....i noticed slight increases with mine every time i did a mod, the chip having the most difference IMO......if done all at once your car should be a lot better

Its being done by a family friend (the best mechanic I have ever met) in the next 2 weeks. He needs it for a few days so its got te be when I dont need it.

What is a dizzi cap and rotar arm?

the dizzi cap is that plastic thing that all the plug leads go to.....the rotar arm is inside that, they both have metal contacts on them that can wear out......you can get both from Halfords/Renault

The mechanic mate usually checks everything, but I will make sure he has a look at them. He is trying to figure out my flat spot aswell, so no doubt everything to do with the ignition will be played and checked with anyway.
