Ive got a 1.2 16V and I do a lot of motorway miles. Whats the easiest way to get a bit more power without voiding the warrenty? I was considering a new exhuast system, but I dont know how much louder it would make the car (especially on the motorway).
As soon as you change anything, then bye bye warranty. Theres not a lot you can do to a 1.2. Even induction and exhaust will only give you at most a 10bhp increase. You probably wouldnt even feel a 10bhp increase so no point.
Your free insuranc policy wont allow for any performance mods.
The 1.2 could be make to make 100 Hp with cams, remaps, exhaust and intake mods but is it really worth it?
The warrantly states anything you mod isnt warentied and anyhting which the mods affect isnt warenteed so a ai filter mod could invalidate all the engine warently but some Renault dealerships wont be that harsh on you and let mods like that go. How you would go if the engine failed and you needed a new one and it was modded I dont know. Ive heard of other manurfacturers fitting new engines to modded cars but never heard of any examples of Renaults having failed engines which have been modified.
tbh no offence but without spending a lot i doubt you will notice the power difference. i honestly think if you buy an induction kit or exhaust it aint for the power its for sound and looks, decat cn add a little power again i doubt you will notce it on a 1.2
I didnt buy anything more powerful because the cheapest insurance quote I got on a 1.4l was well over £2000 (I dont have any no claims). I never wanted to go hardcore by upgrading cams or stuff like that. I just wondered if there was anything I could do to boost the power a bit. I know now there isnt!
Dont forget to tell the insurance company about the mods. You may be able to remove the exhaust and airbox quick but if you crash the car and wake up in hospital then there no chance of removing them before the investigator comes round to tell you that you werent insured as your car is modded.
well my car was found crashed into a lamppost - renault insurance didnt say a word about the lack of interior or induction kit (not declared) fitted, though they asked for the interior to be returned

I got an Induction kit and an exhaust from k-tec and it only gave me 76bhp!!! Doh! (Might explain why u can do a 1/4 in 17sec; Fred)
feck me, mine produced that as standard at BB Tuning
Tell me about it...Mine was probably a monday morning or Friday afternoon car.
Having said that, i put a post up about the sh*t*y Ecotec valves and the lack of mpg i was getting. So in despiration i took the thing off and....went up to 42mpg at 80mph instead of 36mpg! Not bad going eh? Plus it doesnt sound like a leaking tyre under my bonnet any more! lol
