Morego Clio Sport 202

EVO mag October edition has an article in the Driven feature on BBR conversion of a 182 upto 202 bhp. Conversion got a 4 star rating by Jethro Bovingdon. But he thought the price was a bit steep at £1850 including fitting. BBR conversions are usually rated pretty highly, especially Mini works.

Read the article about it in Autocar or Auto Express the other week, just opened my Evo now so will have a read.

Id be interested in that if they could back up the 202bhp claim. Im guessing from Freds reaction that its dubious?

bit of an odd one, it says you can buy all the parts required as a kit, fair enough

BUT

now how are owners supposed to fit a cam/or cams without specialist tools???????

i also wonder if theyve included a new cambelt kit into their price, or are the bodging it and using the existing one????

I am still interested in this upgrade

Sure I dont really know the details, but then to be blunt (and no offence) Ive got no reason to trust GDI etc. anymore than I would these guys.

I also like the sound of this, but would you be able to actually feel 20 more horses in normal everyday driving? Or, are we just talking about .0023 second quicker to 0 - 62.7mph territory?

20bhp and 20 extra lb/ft would DEFO be noticable. The power/weight would be significantly increased, so would (presumably, based on the 172 GpN map) throttle response. Not sure about the 7800 redline, although it WOULD increase top speed.

  Clio Trophy

Better option in Evo was that of this whole pack minus the cams. Cheep to at 899. That would seem to be the best one to go for - +14bhp or so would still hit the P2W ratio nicely also...thats what Im seriously thinking of putting on the Trophy...

I think its pretty reasonable for the power you get and more imprtantly they have the balls to back it up with a warranty. I dont see any other renault tuners doing that. Basically its all the power your gonna get without a turbo or TBs so there isnt anything out there that can touch that conversion when you consider the warranty element

I am no fool mate, but if you have something serious to say about this BBR thing then please say it. PM me if needs be - You seem to think the Morego kit is bollokcs, so Id appreciate reasons, solutions and arlternatives

i think the point is that topping 200bhp with an exhaust (retaining cat), filter, cams and a remap.......just isnt going to happen.

Cams just dont do jack on these engines without appropriate breathing mods.

More than willing to be prooven wrong, but numerous people have tried.

well maybe 202 is a silly gain from that work but at least the chumps who buy it and stick a silly "more go" sticker on their car dont deserve that kind of increase.

im still with GDI and angel works.

btw are you two joint or separate compaines and whats the difference between you two ?

Seperate companies, but work on the same site, but we work very closely together.

I dont deal with the whole car as such, just engine and flow development.

Andy does everything from an oil change/suspension/brakes/engines.

What Ben says above really mate, im not sl*gging off just because were a new company and theyre "a rival" blah blah

from what ive seen with clios, which is a fair amount, i highly doubt those alterations would take the car over 200bhp

just dont want anyone laying out £££ on something which albeit is a good package on the face of it, but doesnt do what it says on the tin

ill bet you £1!!! LOL

Maybe Yozzasport & Angelworks should contact EVO mag and ask them to do a comparison test session between BBRs conversion and one they have done? Its very easy to dispute claimed power figures on a forum. Could be a good marketing tool for the winner of that session, as lots of 172/182 owners are out there thinking about engine upgrades. How about it yoz/ben/andy - the proof of the pudding, etc!

After all, this issue of the EVO was mailed to subscribers on 1st Sept, in its special subsciber only edition, so most forum members wont even have seen the off the shelf mag or article yet.

If I threw a similar amount of money (£1850) at AWT, what sort of performance upgrade could reasonably be expected then?

Personally, and only personally, im totally not interested in anything to do with EVO mag. IMO its totally un founded in any of the views, and they are all rock apes......you should of seen them at badford.........like the track was covered in oil. Yet because they test all the nice cars and the mag looks good, it sells.

The test would be simply a drive around in all of them, any member on here can do that and give their opnion.

You could go for something like a fully reworked Inlet manifold (totally essential to make any power whilst running the std injection system), some cams, remap and the labour.........Typically good for an HONEST 190-195bhp.

Although the new inlet manifold mod is being tested in 2 weeks and we will be able to show how the mods compare to the std manifold.

The EVO mag article shows an engine bay shot of the morego which shows the standard air box being used.

The spec does state high flow air filter does this mean its just a panel filter upgrade!?

So price breakdown

exhaust =£400

panel filter=£40

chip=£350

cams=£450?

There price of £1250 seems about right. I am surprised there are no real breathing mods though.

I seem to remember seing a thread off BenR, where, in his opinion a rr power figure was a load of poo? Running scared me thinks!

EVO mag has been pretty honest about Renault cars they have tested thus far, including long term Clios V6 & 182.

  E91 M Sport

Its not Evos fault if it doesnt produce 202bhp...you cant expect them to RR each car they test. They simply drive it and give real-world opinions, which tbh, counts for far more than a dyno output result.

I dont reckon theyd be interested in doing a 182 modders line up either, they have chosen to feature the Morego because its a well known tuners package, on a popular hot hatch.

Just be thankful we havent seen the LAD upgrade featured!

Tuners are selling modifications to produce bhp increases, the greater the increase the greater the value of what they are selling.

Unfortunately no one governs these claims. So it is upto people buying any mods to do there research so they can decide for themselves what is a true claim and what is not. I think some companies target people who do not have the knowledge but are looking for those headline power figures.

bang on

"when the flag drops, the bullsh*t stops"

i love that saying LOL

This kit uses renault parts, renault make masses of group N parts, and renault have rolling roaded this kit which is where the power figures come from,so all of the parts for this kit can be brought from renault

  The Jinx

A rolling road cannot be used as proof of power claims, end of.

I thought the claims of 16-17bhp just from a filter, cat back and chip sounded a little optimistic though.

and 40/40lbft hp gain for a ford mustang with an induction kit added also ! hehe maybe, but 40lbft from an open air filter (as shown in mag pic) LMAO.

-------------------

so..

lets say i have a 172 (168ps) or there abouts. how do i get to 190. inlet manifold, cams, remap, sports cat ?

i wouldnt wanna feck about with the induction as it seems knowone really gets any gains overs stock.
