MP3 Headunit

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

Ok I think its about time I got myself a new headunit as Ive had my current one for the past 3+ years now and Im getting bored of it....

...anyway I fancy one that supports MP3 playback, so Im considering this Pioneer one at the moment http://www.letsbuycaraudio.com/main.php?cat=cdTuners&make=1&product=411http://www.letsbuycaraudio.com/main.php?cat=cdTuners&make=1&product=411

Ive read a few reviews and it seems quite good, any thoughts?

Looking at spending no more than £300 though as Im going to buy a new amp or two as well.

Cheers :)

hi m8 i have a friend that works doing car installs etc and he had a client come in and was deciding between the pioneer 1 u said the alpine cda 7893r and the kenwoods also looked at the alpine cda7894rb and he put it in his car which has just about every top end stuff u can think of and he tested them all and he said the pioneer was ok but not spectacular he said the kenny was ok but over priced and the alpine cda 7893r came out the best.

since then i have bought the alpine.

he said pioneer is good for visuals but the deley between mp3s was horrible sq was ok but not as good as the others.

kenny nice looking good sq but he personally thought was too expensive.

he said alpine was the best on sq and mp3 playback as wile listening to mp3s u can still search threw other songs with out stopping what u r playing .

and when the alpine can be had for 250 quid he said it was the best overall.

i love my alpine and this is mine and most of the people he works fors oppinion so its up to u.

u get 4x60watt 3x 4 volt pre outs and the best radio tuner out the lot .

Hi mate, thanks for the reply. The Alpine looks like a decent headunit. Ill have to look into it a bit more though before making a decision. I do like the the display on the Pioneer though, but I cant be doing with waiting ages before tracks on the mp3s. Whats the time gap on the Alpine?

Cheers :D

all mp3 headunits have a slight delay but apparantly alpine have the shortest like half a second at the most.

i also dont like the pioneer becaus all past pioneer oel headunits have big displays and the 1 u said has a tiny screen compared to the others:(

i fink i broke the forum cos its gone all bloo EEEEEKKK

From what Ive been told (by quite a few!) the Alpine is by far the best, thats why I just ordered one yesterday! Will arrive tomorrow!:D

I have the 7894 in mine and i have been really impressed with it, i had mine fitted for me as they have to run a power lead from the battery to the back of the stereo, not sure if its the same for the 7893 though.

Yeah I like the look of the 7894 over the 7893 a lot. Is it worth the extra £100 notes? What has it got that the 7893 hasnt apart than the look of it?

I need convincing to buy this headunit.......

Cheers :D

im buyin the 7893 cos i think its a good buy especially for an alpine and mp3

for the extra 120 quid you get a remote, digital time correction, and a built in x- over, and a nice silver colour

imho i dont think its its worth the extra cash just for the look, the remotes worth havin but ive had a built in x-over on previous units and not used it really

i wouldnt pay the extra specially as the 7893 is a good buy

sorry if ive not convinced u lol ,but if it helps i prefer the colour but my 120 quid ive saved has bought me a set of components for the front doors

erm i got my alpine 7893 yesterday and the manual is the same for the 7893 and 7894

the only differance i can see is an extra pre out and a remote and it being silver because mine has a built in x-over and time correction

you are supposed to run a lead into the battery because its a high current draw and to an earth aswell

i just connected into the original stereo connections for the time being until i get the rest of the system in ill sort it then

Doesnt sound like the 7894 is really worth the extra $$$. So whats it like? or have you not had a propper play with it yet?

Did you order it from letsbuycaraudio.com?

Cheers mate :)

i was going to get it from letsbuycaraudio but the car audio centre in manchester said theyd match the price so i went and picked it up

ive not had a proper play with it yet but first impressions are good ive still only got standard speakers at the minute but the quality is excellent straight off cant wait to get it set up properly and get some bass in there

Any ideas if a headunit from the USA will work ok over here...??? Would the radio frequencies and power be different??

Cheers

In my opinion i dont think the 7894 is worth the extra 120 quid or so, i just could not get hold of a 7893 and needed a new mp3 head unit. I do like the silver blue effect though.

Still now worth the extra cash!:D
